Cat West could be an interesting PM. She’s one of a few I’ve worked with and is very much a passionate woman of her word. Not sure she has the brand recognition to be welcomed as a new PM, but that could be moot if she can’t gather 81 signatures anyhow.

The longer ballot boxes are left without being counted, the more opportunities there are to interfere with them. They should go straight from the polling stations to the count for verification.
In places like Sunderland, they traditionally get this, the count, and declaration all done before last orders.
For MPs I can understand as that’s nation executive (although the lords allow for emergency contingencies)
Local councils where the councillors are strictly speaking unpaid volunteers it makes sense to do the count during day time when
The people who don’t like next day results are the media (particularly dead tree press) & the polling companies as it means they have to wait for the story or have to wait trying to flog their prediction model to the advertising companies (who purchase & promoting marketing opportunities in the media (inc dead tree press).
There is an in built bias to the polling companies that their method works as it doesn’t it loses lots of money - I do wonder if this is partially why the populist parties are surging & getting media coverage as that’s the advertising algorithm.
Doubt it, lots of secure storage overnight options - & we aren’t talking about hundreds of thousands of voting papers.

Similar to my point above, those counts were done properly and so the ballot boxes were never out of our sight.
