Scotland is different to the red wall,
I’ve lived in both, I’ve voted in both. I’m talking specifically about the Scottish elections

I prefer it over westminster, without this system The SNP would just Dominate
Although I disagree with the idea of standing for a constituency and being the top pick for a regional seat.
He should come out of this realising that List seats are just consulation prizes for the parties that didn’t win any FPTP Seats
And this is the second time he’s done it. First running against the Incumbent FM who was Popular (AT THE TIME) for her actions during COVID, and still weasled his way into a Regional seat
Really pleased the councillor for my ward at work has kept her seat, we would be on different pages politically, but she’s really on the ball and pleasant to work with.

It definitely results in two distinct classes of MSP: those with personal mandates and those without. He’s effectively a second rate MSP now (but, from what you’ve said, he already was?)
You’ve just made me giggle, the Entire Reform contingent are 2nd rate MSPs
Also Never thought id agree with 3 job douglass, but he made a good point about the Reform contingent being too ambitious and not really understanding the landscape
He said after the Constituencys were almost done that he expected to be in the 20s from the regional lists
Very few people vote for an individual MP. What they actually do is vote for the party principles. If that wasn’t the case, people would turn on their MPs more often, rather than clinging to party despite poor leadership / behaviour etc
I’d go as far to say that the MPs with a true personal mandate are those I dependant MPs who’ve somehow fought off all the political parties!
This is how I’ve always thought of my local CC. He’s tory, but party politics has never come into it. He attends every parishes council meetings in his area and is always helping loads.

To be fair that’s how the Conservatives won all the seats up for grabs on our council yesterday, I don’t actually like any of them on a personal level (despite being a Conservative myself), but they are doing a pretty decent job and that’s shown in the results.

It’s ridiculous how the count for this election wasn’t done overnight. It’s like no one cares anymore.

Seems to be a question not currently being asked, but shouldn’t Kemi Badenoch be out of a job after these elections?
She’s leader of the official opposition; a grouping that normally does well in local elections at the expense of the party in power. This time around, the Conservatives are still haemorrhaging votes, councillors and councils.
If she can’t win votes against a PM who (rightly or wrongly) is deeply unpopular with the electorate, should she still be the leader of the party?
Ah, but she won Westminster, see?
So…should Kier Starmer stay or go?
Stay, the alternatives are all far worse come a general election.
I’m likely to vote tactically to keep Reform out next time round, but can’t see myself voting for Labour if Burnham, Rayner or Lammy are PM.

She’s personally quite popular and wins head-to-head polling against other leaders. She just needs to find a way to pull the party up with her.
They’ve only got 19 Parliamentarians in the devolved nations, out of 225 seats, it’s not looking good for her (or Starmer)
And therein lies the problem for the labour party and the country, if he is the best of the bunch.

The thing with labour right…..
They’ve actually done a pretty good job of delivering their manifesto to date, it’s just been smeared by a few poor decisions, which probably there was no right decision without irritating half the country.
The majority of not kept, are tax increases, but when you inherit a more broken economy as expected, the big orange douche bag is systematically tanking the dollar which makes the entire global financial situation even more challenging, then starts a war which drives costs up…you are screwed in regards to decisions. You have no choice
And I’m not the biggest Labour fan either but I’d rather them over the Nazi party wearing blue rosettes
