There’s no commonality, obviously, but when I was last on ops people were wearing regimental slides on shirts and standard MTP on their Osprey (as it was at the time).
This is clearly creeping in though. About time someone just asked the question!
This will require RAF DPSG.
If we did this without RAF approval, there would be problems and we promptly be ordered to stop
It should be for parades/ceremonial only in my opinion
Which makes it pointless for the parent service who would just wear No1’s
I’m more concerned about damage to the shirt to be honest as these will be on a pin to swap between shirts….the material of short sleeve shirts is gash
The Americans have a magnetic version that has been widely adopted.
I should’ve clarified my wording - that would be if it was for us. In the parent service I still imagine it’d be limited to diplomatic/official occasions
I don’t think that’s the way it’s going for the regulars, with the metal brevets I think the rest is only a matter of time, just need the last of the fuddy duddys to retire, at which point why not us as well?
Agreed this will happen eventually, air crew have been asking for years but RAF DPSG say naaa.
I got as far as getting the braid - but laziness got in the way. Might as well wait till I get Sqn Ldr now ![]()
Should we ask the question?
It might raise that broader discussion, especially if brought up in the context of the metal flying badges.
I think we need the RAF to pull the trigger first to be honest.
I’m sure theres something working through the RAF DPSG
Nah, can do much better than that - have rank slides with the relevant brevet on it - after all, the brevet-wearing personnel are the best in the RAF!

Would work for the AAC + RN too.
Just do it & when challenged respond that you submitted & had approved your form 27b/6 authorising you to wear & if they contact this email they can provide you a copy of said form.
It will take six months of admin bureaucracy chasing down the form & the query will get lost on the system.
Common to wear that in the US tbh
Probably because the yanks always wear white
Everyone loves the Whites.
Quick question - what actually are the changes to undershirts with No3 dress (if there are any, wording confuses me)?
