It was a public photo from RAF social media, and I was calling out the RAF’s new policy and the new uniform design?!
You were, others weren’t.
Ah, I see, they’ve been deleted since hence my confusion ![]()
Re-upload, with a crop.
Saw alot of these from the regulars at Cosford Airshow, every one had it in a different position it seems
It’s the way the pockets are on the MTP LWS. On my previous MTP the TRF was perfectly vertical. On the new stuff it’s slightly off-set and I’m not unpicking the stitching to sew it back on again.
I wish they’d hurry up and get it written into the AP.
It should’ve been a natural progression from the metal brevets.
The navy have shoulder boards too, and the army have metal pins - time for that too for a new No2D for events like this with shoulder board, ribbons and lanyards, or just lump it in with no2B (and should brevets be worn always?!)
The RAF does actually have shoulder boards, too, but they’re only worn with certain forms of tropical dress and possibly great coats.
They look far superior to a bit of stapled composite braid in my opinion.
I really wish we could use our tropical mess dress shoulder boards, or something similar. They look great.
I hate composite braid.
Most people don’t even understand which bit is rank insignia and which bit is actually “fake background”.
It probably doesn’t help that the fake background is the colour of a jumper no one wears (aircrew don’t even have a reason to anymore).
Then again, imagine how confusing it would be if backed with Wedgwood blue?
The dual-tone stripes should be changed to gold They’d be much easier to read then.
While we’re at it, we can change the MTP braid to a kind of sandy colour and the NCOs can use the same colour but embroidered.
Nah, I think the NCO rank slides being blue looks pretty cool imo unless on ops
Ironically, the Army are issued tan embroidered rank slides with MTP backing and most of them private purchase regimental rank slides to wear on everything except the top layer of body armour or whatever (even on ops).
I always said that if I reached Flt Lt id use proper braid on my ones, not Composite.
Why don’t they wear regimental stuff on the top layer? Pretty sure I’ve seen some do it
