“Sorry, none of you have made the required standard to progress onto the CPL course. Thank you for paying us for your PPL though!”
Yeah, just a marketing ploy
I, too, have now had the rejection email sadly! An interesting process, which I’ve enjoyed! Been a bit stresfull at times! (Probably by design)
Sadly still no feedback, which I’m surprised about given how far along I managed to get.
Not sure if anyone on here has managed to make it through to the final stage? If so, good luck! I think the final day up at Waterside would have been interesting.
But alas, back to my day job!
2024 Honourable Company of Air Pilots Gliding Scholarships officially opened up today at PCL London.
An excellent opportunity to get the foot on the aviation ladder!
(Please lets not argue about the handwritten application forms again)
Don’t need to, steps in the right direction - still utterly absurd that you can’t use a word processor to fill in an application form, who needs trees or diverse recruitment anyway?.. But at least there is the following caveat, I wonder whether it’s just paying lip service though.
If you are invited to attend an interview, do you require any assistance or adjustments?
Please indicate if you require any reasonable adjustments as part of your application process
Is it a fair assumption the points you raised last time fell on deaf ears?
Isn’t that just the bare minimum expectation with the requirement for reasonable adjustments?
You assume people who are deaf are welcome there in the first place, who knows…
Someone in the process must be strongly behind keeping a discriminatory process in place.
Once you could understand as an overstep but it’s been called out, not just here, plenty of times. But they continue to insist on this process. Real shame as it could be a great opportunity. Can I offer this to my cadets? I probably still will. But how on earth they’ll be able to make an in person interview, in London, during school time, at their own expense… No idea.
‘Place of Birth’ on the application form - straight from the user guide of how not to run open and diverse recruitment
Some local school authorities have a longer Easter break that will cover those dates, although some (Cambs) do not (I’ve just checked), so maybe they didn’t look at broader scope? I will be asking them about “remote” interview options. As to travel costs, well, day return train tomorrow from Huntington to Lunnon = £43, plus any Tube / bus fares. Further afield, Plymouth - Lunnon = £188 as cheapest, but would have to be a late morning / early afternoon interview to manage everything in one day. Newcastle = £140, Edinburgh - £160?
Well, if they haven’t moved far, their address is a similar “pointer.”
Are you implying this isn’t a lot of money for a teenager?
Not at all - even £43 is a lot for many families, let alone a teenager.
I’ve emailed the Guild asking for comments on hand-written applications, interviews in term holidays & expensive travel options - the last 2 could easily be negated by on-line interviews.
I appreciate the point of in person interviews but with the company having members throughout the country they should easily be able to accomadate a number of regional panels. It really does look like some short sighted thinking on their part.
Big supporter of doing that, hopefully a sensible solution on the horizon.
My worry is, given the clear reluctance to change, even if they did permit some people to do this option, are they just going to be discounted anyway? Whether overtly or not.
and without any guarantee of anything at the end of it except the “experience” of the interview
Here’s a flying Scholarship for the ladies
Molly Rose Flying Scholarship - Applications close Nov 30th
Honourable Company of Air Pilots have launched their PPL Scholarships for 2024 - Applications close 11th Jan
(Again please leave this topic to advertise various Scholarships)
If you want to discuss the merits of application processes, take it up with them directly and in private. Coming here to denigrate people offering our supposed USP without actually following up with any substance is unhelpful, pointless and makes it less likely we’ll get this sort of info in future.
PM someone if you want to discuss.
Won by one of “my” cadets last year.
A little nudge (even though there are already over 600 cadets signed up to it - good luck MS Teams!) but there is a Q&A/Flying& Gliding Scholarship talk from the Honourable Company of Air Pilots this Evening!
Yep - but it’s a parade evening for us - is this likely to be recorded to view later?
