Death of HM Queen Elizabeth II

Technically its colour drill but yeah. QCS nailed it.

Well done everyone involved today. Immaculately delivered.

It would be a very nice touch if the C17 had a small crown emblem added to the paintwork as a reminder of its role today.

Or a plaque inside as they did with Chinook BN mentioning that it was the Falkland’s Chinook and the four of its pilots had been awarded the DFC on operations flying the aircraft.

I’m not buoying this as a coincidence.

The hate online about this and the union jack being the wrong way around is unreal…all of them with zero knowledge that its actually right.

Route of the coffin procession- anyone going down today to watch?

Yeah… That’s a route and a half. I am not managing that.

If I didn’t have my appointment today I would be going to the procession. I’ll catch it on the TV i think.

Someone on my FB reposted this. Not sure how genuine it is, but it definitely sounds like her…

Union Flag……

Both terms are acceptable and have been since at least 1902 (when the Admiralty put it in writing). The Union Jack by that name predates the existence of the Jack Staff so claims like that are 100% incorrect.

I’d like to think that’s real, but having a hard time imagining HM referring to them as “my boys”.

I know. As I’ve said, not sure it’s true. But the sentiment is certainly the boss.

I’ve seen (draft?) routes for HM journey to Windsor on Monday, it might be easier for many to get a good spot along the route.

I saw the procession is going along the Long Walk. If it’s the whole length, that’ll give plenty of space to view from.

Did they?

If you watched it live, their arms were swinging considerably less than all the way up (and inconsistently) as they marched on to meet the hearse; and I think they got out of step initially carrying the coffin (but fixed it quickly).

The bits on the highlights on the news were spot on, but it wasn’t immaculate.

Should have got the ATC to do it…

So myself& the missus have both managed to get the day off work so have dived down to the big smoke. Crowds arent too bad at the moment.

Plenty of loos, coffee, water so think we’ve got a good spot.

In one of the memoirs about Afghanistan, the author relates at their DFC presentation that HM the Queen mentioned that she and Prince Philip had read their after action report at breakfast before the investiture. That is how much she cared for her ‘boys and girls’.

Edited to add, that when King Charles III and the Queen Consort were Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall respectively, they would quietly and discreetly slip into the QE Hospital in Birmingham to visit those that had returned from Afghanistan and leave them with a bottle of whiskey as a memento. They also care very deeply for the ‘boys and gorls’.

I wish I could join you. Hopefully the turn out will be good. She should get the respect she deserves.

It’s good turn out so far. Right level of busy. If I get mugged by the BBC I’ll give you a shout out.

It appears to busiest nearest the palace & horse guards. St James park seems quieter than green park side but it’s a much of a muchness really.
