Coronavirus: what happens next!

Way to feed the fire you seemed to be trying to fight against.

And yet i wouldn’t be surprised if individual Squadrons have taken the decision to Stand Down.

I’m not trying to do that. Some of the comments on here are very critical from individuals who don’t know the full circs.

I’m not at liberty to release any more information and it’s not my job to do that in any case. Sometimes certain information is withheld for the right reasons, for example to protect an individual or individuals.

The organisation has a HUGE issue with information dissemination. Its embarrassing really. So you really cant blame people for being critical.

I know of two that have, because schools which feed them have closed, because students there have the virus.

And that has been communicated locally, in full, to prevent questioning of the why.

Or ensuring operational pilots arent infected by Cadet Johnny Smith and his Corona infested lungs within the very tight confines of a tutor cockpit… or the next person who wears CDT Johnny Smith’s helmet, gloved or flying suit.

You could have literally written this verbatim and people would have fully understood.

agreed - yet would also expect that other AEFs (and VGSs) should follow suit for the same reasons and thus come from higher than the local AEF OC.

8AEF have instead offered a generic response to a specific local condition and set of circumstance which has lead to criticism, conspiracies and calls of dishonesty

This is a response to a local issue as there is no advice forthcoming from RAFAC.

It’s easy to criticise somebody for making a decision when you aren’t aware of the detailed circumstances.

I’m sure that if the critics on here knew the full circs then they might be a little more understanding.

Sometimes however the full circs cannot or shouldn’t be divulged publicly.

That’s the situation as it stands.

6AEF announced no flying for cadets yesterday due a CV risk…!

My Wing have essentially binned any multi-squadron training or gatherings.

My OC has taken that as a cue to bin pretty much all of our weekend training though parade nights are still going ahead :man_shrugging:

So you admit the current circumstances are not understandable…

And you’re puzzled why people don’t understand them…

What exactly don’t you understand about not being able to release certain information??

Whatever the underlying circumstances might actually be, the announcement posted above reads as a generic, knee-jerk reaction and I can understand why it could be read as shirking.

The AEFs (maybe some more than others) have a communication problem, as if they feel that the customer does not deserve a more full and honest announcement but can just be fed. I guarantee that a truer account could be given whilst still not divulging any sensitive personal or corporate confidential information.

I would suggest that 8AEF needs to try harder in this regard. Pass that back up to your masters but the weight of opinion on here does not appear to be on your side (again) so there is little point in arguing.

There’s no lack of understanding, there’s constant frustration at being spoken to like ill-behaved 7 year olds, with an expectation that we’ll just sit down and shut up.

The CAC recently put out a letter about showing respect to one another. This communication does not respect the volunteers.

Perhaps 2FTS and 6FTS weren’t included in that. Genuine point due to their reporting lines.

WRT flying in general we should be fully used to nonsense like this. We are all grown ups and given all the information can make our own judgement. I cannot see the reason for binning flying being in the slightest way injurious to the nation. Maybe the truth isn’t credible enough to withstand scrutiny.
Just look at the article last week.

12AEF just called STOP. I hope they will have better communication to follow the sharepoint announcement.
I am seeing the dark humour of a perhaps imminent halt at 13AEF a couple of days after coming back online.

6FTS has called a stop, 2FTS hasn’t

For this weekend anyway

I guess there will always be a cadre on here who are happy to criticise any decision that is made by anyone that provides a service to their cadets.

Some of the comments on here aimed at the AEF do nothing to improve the communication and I believe that 8AEF has greatly improved its communication with its customers, in particular via Facebook where information is regularly posted to keep cadets and staff up to date with issues.

I don’t accept that a handful of posters on here who don’t agree with/ like what I post means that i should stop making the argument. Just because some disagree with me doesn’t make my point of view less valid. Your suggestion that I should accept their view is insulting, bearing in mind some of the childish content of some of the responses…

Can we now be sensible and accept that OC 8AEF has made a decision in the best interests of the health of cadets and staff that were due to visit this weekend. I know that decision was not easy for him to make. He consulted all his staff for their opinion yesterday following 6AEFs decision. Yesterday, my personal opinion was that we should continue to operate. Other information has come to light today which has forced his hand in consultation with OC UBAS.

Please accept that it is a sensible decision. I am not in a position to comment on the full circumstances.
