I have £5 on Cosford being binned.
Sadly this weekend’s cadet flying is cancelled due to the risk of Coronavirus (Covid-19) transmission. Although the Air Cadet Organisation has yet to officially declare this should be the policy for Air Cadet flying; at 8AEF we believe that it is the safest course of action until the progress / spread of the virus in the UK is better understood. While the risk to the cadets themselves is minimal there is the potential that gathering Squadrons together at the AEF might enable the spread of the virus. As a Youth Organisation we should err on the side of caution, minimise the risk of transmission and, hopefully, ensure that this will only be a short term pause!
They used the “pause” word!
Just received an email from HQAC: IACE is cancelled following government advice to cancel school trips overseas but they say “ Currently cadet activity in the UK is not affected but the situation is under constant review.” so AEF shouldn’t have been affected.
That sounds like lazy people trying to justify not doing work. We aren’t talking huge gatherings of people here.
You don’t know the full circumstances…!!
I corrected that for 8AEF - and can now be read like a generic statement
Thanks for your support and understanding…
It’s utterly nuts. The scientific advisor to the government hasn’t thought it necessary to close schools with thousands of children in attending for 6 hours a day but gathering 24 people for 3 hours once is too risky?
We need to get a bit of perspective here…
Unless you know the full circumstances then your perspective could change…
There’s information that hasn’t been released that would undoubtedly do this.
Unless someone from 8 AEF is infected which is causing a containment issue then the posts do come across as going against government advice and a little silly.
Why with hold the information?
So why not release it? If a pilot is self isolating, if this was actually mentioned I’m sure we’d be understanding.
At the moment all it looks like is that the AEF is at panic stations.
Nobody is panicking, just making decisions based upon the information we have in the best interests of visiting cadets and staff.
That is not what the message says though. It says you have no formal instruction from the government or the organisation but you’re deciding to cancel everything for an unknown time period based on a hunch.
If, as above, a member of staff has symptoms or a confirmed case then no one would question this. The fact is either you haven’t and you’re being unnecessarily cautious or you have and you’re not being honest.
I’m sure you can draw your own conclusion.
There’s no ‘dishonesty’ going on here. The important thing is that nobody comes into an environment that potentially puts them at risk.
I think this just proves the conspiracy theories. The “virus” is being spread by aircraft and contrails. They were obviously using tutors from 8AEF but don’t want all the cadets to get the virus and someone to put two and two together
absolutely - you are quite right.
i should have ended that statement with
“Thank you in advance for your continued support and understanding
OC 8AEF”
Lets not start an argument. We all have different risk appetites. . .
At risk of what? getting in the air??
Yet we all belong to the same organisation which has one risk standard…
