Exactly. So why has it taken until yesterday for it to happen.
We are literally arguing over nothing here.

All schools in Wales are being closed by Friday.
same in Scotland
I didn’t think Wales had a government?
No, that’s Northern Ireland.
Drat, they’ve fixed that. And it was their legislature anyway.
Nooo! They’ve cancelled the Eurovision Song Contest!
Neither do half the people in Wales and therein lies a massive problem…
The WRU referred to it as the Welsh Assembly Government the other day, a body that hasn’t existed since 2014.
But yes, Welsh Government has responsibility for lots of stuff - education, health, transport, economic development, social care, local government, housing, environment etc.
And all the soap operas, and possibly all of the pubs. Finally, you shall all see a world wrought by me.
Scotland and Wales closing the schools is politicking at it’s very worst. If the govt doesn’t announce the same today for England, the munchkin and whoever it is in wales will be grandstanding.
Speaking to people in the Post Office yesterday it would seem the local schools are rotating the years with one out each day, but taking work home. This seems eminently sensible and helps parents more than blanket closures. Although one of the people said that the number of teachers off increased when a list of existing conditions was posted. We found out last week a woman who has worked with us for 5 years has asthma and is now self-isolating, nothing wrong with her mind.
Well…has it been? Or is it just Cadets and CFAVs?
Thank god!
How?
Health and education are devolved areas of responsibility, therefore, the Welsh and Scottish Governments have every right to close their schools if they deem it necessary.
Kirsty Williams, the Welsh Education Minister, has said that schools simply don’t have the staff to stay open any longer and that announcing closures now will give them time for a staged draw down rather than sudden blanket closures. Schools in Wales will then become hubs to support vulnerable people in the community.
For what it’s worth the Welsh health system since devolution has had a FAR larger emphasis on public health than the English system so may actually be better placed to respond to this and make the correct decisions.
Maybe do some basic research before you spout your England-centric nonsense.
I work in education and in my school 2/5ths of the cohort is off. The situation is becoming increasingly untenable.
Because rather than coordinating a national response, they have pushed to get their own announcement public to steal the news cycle and thumb their nose at Westminster.
Reading the announcement it is face to face cadet activities. It isn’t preventing remote/ online activities. I read it as business carries on otherwise.
I disagree.
They’ve responded to the situation in their own areas of responsibility - this is the whole reason devolution exists. If they don’t think the UK Government is reacting quickly enough they have every right to make their own decision.
I can’t speak for Scotland but there is a fundamental difference between the social democratic, communitarian values that drive politics in Wales and what happens in England - this is reflected in the governments that are elected.
I think you disagree because you are less accustomed to how Sturgeon runs her world. It is normally about how she can attack Westminster and I very much doubt that any national social differences are ever more that ammunition for her single policy.
I can’t speak for Scotland but knowing some of the actors involved in Wales these decisions are not being made for political reasons.
For all I know Sturgeon is planning to use this as a platform to launch another indy referendum, I don’t know.
I just don’t think it’s fair how people automatically lump both administrations together.
