Coronavirus: what happens next!

No there wasnt. Not even for VR(T).

We were limited in duties to the ATC at all times.

In the event of total war, I meant. Not just day to day.

We’ve talked about this. Normally 45-50 cadets plus staff, so split into 2 flights and parade 4 nights per week. Each flight still gets 2 evenings. We’re lucky enough to have enough staff and staff cadets to make this feasible.

Lol, in a case of ‘total war’ it would have been ‘go to your local recruiting office and join up’.

Isn’t there still the danger of cross-infection from the staff attending all of the parade nights?

If I had to run four parade nights a week I think my head would explode. We probably have enough staff to do it but I know who’d be doing all the work.

I should have been clearer. We’d split cadets and staff into 2 groups and keep them separate. Extra cleaning would be needed too.

given that size, I’d wonder about pushing for a new Detached flight or two.

(Of course, only after all this palaver is over. )

I think if we were doing something like that we’d just have one parade night a week. One flight one night, the other flight the other night. Same activities both nights. Keep it simple, but keep it ticking over.

I’m also planning some online aircraft recognition lessons / tests. If I come up with anything decent I’ll share.

There was no liability for the VR but what there was, was a power to transfer the VR to a reserve force and then there would be a call up liability. But let’s face it, that would a final step before general conscription. We’re in a bit of a good spot really, our role and speciality is (in theory) training. If the brown sticky stuff ever hit the fan and we were called up we’d probably be shipped off to a training establishment as staff.

Listening to a prog on R4, they said the panic buying was started by someone putting a picture of empty supermarket shelves on SM … in Australia. It appears that those of little brain thought it was in the UK and so it began. If ever there was a reason to close SM down completely while this is going on, this is it as people can’t be trusted to read and act responsibly. Although lord knows what cadets would do, who knows they might have to actually talk to people using their voices. It would sod the CAC up as well.

that is certainly how i heard the panic on toilet roll started.
Hong Kong and Australia both get their toilet roll from China - a country which was shutting down as it went into isolation and so panic started - this was then believed the same would happen in the UK, but it didn’t as we have UK suppliers of loo roll who are unaffected!

Which is exactly what happened to my grandfather, a TA List B (or whatever they were in 1939) at Dulwich College. He went and ran a training camp in Wales. To be fair he was also 41.

My wonderful OC about tonight’s parade night:

'We stay open until officially told to close.

By the way I won’t be in tonight…’

Thanks boss.
