Coronavirus: what happens next!

Why is everyone speculating about what might happen? I genuinely don’t understand why people have to post “ooh we might stand down”. Why don’t you all wait for actual information?

Gwent and Powys ACF have closed down. The message was posted yesterday.
Commandant, Gwent & Powys ACF

Have you every heard of Chickenpox parties? People actively encourage their kids to get ill all the time.

Because, generally, the people involved are smart and curious and will therefore ask questions and want to know what people think.

Love how he says permanent ‘support staff will work to establish clear working practices etc etc’

My wexo and underlings will simply take 3 months holiday.
I bet the civil service is rubbing its hands together, loads of time off.

What happened to keep calm and carry on?

A medical professional has just made a point on the radio about them not being official advice and are not advised. People don’t pay attention though, we are seeing it again today.

I was just coming to say that. Chicken pox has a vaccine now, those are certainly not encouraged.

Dawns on holiday, COS has control. I suspect he will devolve to the RCs who will follow NHS guidance. Can’t see units closing while kids are still at school. They may cancel easter camps.

As long as schools are open we should be, if they close then we should too.

Though as a potentially ‘higher risk’ member of staff I am not sure wether I should be starting to avoid the Squadron, as mixing with kids from 5 or 6 schools must surely increase my risk quite a bit.

Though the flip side, is that I don’t actually touch them of course, so is that being over cautious?

On what basis?

Schools will.close due 1000 pupils mixing.
50 cadets mixing is hardly the same.

Good acp 4 adherence there.

We aren’t equivalent to schools. If the response bases itself on the size of gatherings then we should acct in accordance with that. A “no gatherings more than 5” rule as I have seen announced somewhere would certainly shut us down (though I am sure there are some units who could function legally even then)

Hmmm, considering “risk averse” mentality for such things as ACTO35, my bet is that they will pull the plug before schools do - one possible argument is that we “mix” school populations in large groups (rather than just a few mates from different schools meeting up) = higher risk of passing on Covid19.

From the duty of care point of view, we probably also have a higher demographic range of CFAVs who are in a higher risk age bracket.

Work have started gathering details on who is high risk and or has high risk dependants for just this reason.

Interesting split of opinion there, some saying we’re not equivalent to schools and then an opinion that we are large groups…

I think there will be a general view amongst the senior leadership that we will be equivalent.

It may be that the government do issue numbered guidance which makes the senior leaderships decision easy, they just publish that and the units of suitable size crack on. Bigger units split their parade nights maybe.

Against the current direction of Regional Command. I don’t see any real good reason why they should be closing.

I have changed my mind since yesterday. While there may be an argument for suspending camps while schools are closed, I don’t see any real benefit to closing individual units if they have the right non-isolated staff to run them.

Actual shutdowns need to be done with caution and a timeline in mind, else we risk being closed for a long long time. That certainly won’t help retention.

Do you think we could be called out to keep peace and order?

No, not ever.

We are not in the military. They are only going to call up people with call up liability which may include ex regulars. We are youth instructors in uniform.

Nope.
Not in 100 million billion years.
Not in military.
No call up liability etc etc.

If they ask for volunteeers however…for quick commissions etc

Do you really think that they’d think we’re capable?

Iirc in the VR(T) days there was technically a call out liability, but in reality we’re only going out if there’s conscription.
