Why are we so keen to put cadets and teenagers in general down? Can’t do this or that, or able to do doesn’t bode well for the future when they are in charge. When do they hit the point when they are fitter, better able to cope and everything is cushty. Or is it just when they reach 18 and left to their own devices?
I find it hard to believe we are youth leaders and have so little confidence the young people we are supposedly leading. Just because we have windy senior management, doesn’t mean we just fall in and echo their rhetoric. In sensible times it would be put in controls and crack on. Start early, finish early, so you can relax in the hotter part of the day. Tried and tested doing DofE for many years.
I’m not convinced from what I have seen in terms of regulars in general, they would be any physically fitter than many cadets, mentally perhaps.
No they both read teen in the media. If it was reporting something such as pregnancies, excessive drinking etc etc they will be teenagers as young adult means nothing to anyone. Even in the Air Cadets 18/19 year olds are treated the same as 13 year olds in terms of what they can and cannot do.
Your points are well made. As the school leaving age has risen the age at which schools/ organisations retain their responsibilities for the individuals has risen. Individuals who left school at 14 and entered the world of work started an earlier transition to adult responsibilities with the parrallel reduction of organisational responsibilities(apart from the legal ones).
While we would all advocate providing a training environment where risk is ALARP, the world of litiigation and the protection of corporate image seems to drive us from a pisition of managing risk to one where the only option is seen to be to eliminate it.
WRT cadet training / briefing do what we’ve done for years in terms of IET with reinforcement without any dramatic consequences, before the MoD got overly excited due to some idiots in their employ. We did the videos with one intake and a girl said, are the people that stupid, because that’s just common sense. We said the people are acting, well I hoped they were.
Officially, there is no training, I’d be averse to doing the defence training as the guidance we do have says we can’t use WGBT readings, which are a core aspect of JSP 375’s new system.
Is there an official answer to this? I can imagine Bader SMS applications are going to be rejected during the summer especially with the focus on this area from CoC whilst cadets haven’t had formal climatic injuries training with the videos being withdrawn? What are we supposed to do in this scenario?
So module 2 of the heat injury training from DLE has been added to Ultilearn. What’s the bet that is going to become another compulsory bit of training very soon?
