CFM Eligibility Changed

Very optimistic if you’re expecting some kinda bang when you open that box!

You could be waiting a while. Mine has been in for 1 year and 1 month with HQAC confirming the application has been received.

Nothing seen so far and I assume that the one, yes ONE person who deals with CFM’s et al, is still off sick and no-one is picking up the backlog.

Maybe a question for the Commandant: “when the actual F are you going to sort this out and start valuing your volunteers?”

My clasp application went in nearly 18 months ago… No word of course.
It took them 18 months to eventually get the CFM to me (after I’d resubmitted for the second time and shown them how to calculate age from date of birth)… I’m not holding my breath.

And these stories are why I’m not going to even bother when my time comes.

You can get a cheap replica online whilst waiting

I’m at 6 months

You can get a cheap MOD-licenced copy clasp but its not the same as receiving the real thing. To me, as I’ve often said before, its the principle that matters.

The Corps is swift enough to get CFAV’s to do an awful lot but they are extremely slow when it comes to sorting out the most basic form of recognition. They make you beg by applying for the damn things then just ignore the pile of applications as they mount up.

“Would you mind sorting through these applications for me?”

“Not me chief, I’m airframes and (tapping his watch) I’m late for NAAFI break”…

I’ve got a stack of clasps and rosettes in stock but it wouldn’t be right to wear it prior to being gazetted (or at least getting the official confirmation) in my mind.

I always find the gazetting issue an interesting one. I know that we have close ties with the RAF, and borrow a lot of traditions etc… But… Why the need to bother with gazetting, why do we need to gazette new commissions, medals etc.

If you were made Akela in the scouts you wouldn’t have to wait for an official record to be made before you could wear the badge…

Genuine question, not being facetious…

I was allowed to wear the ribbon of my previous long-gong on my No.1’s before the medal was officially handed over - or prised out of the Sqn WO’s hands as I had to do. Of course, one couldn’t wear the medal if one didn’t have it!

To me, if one doesn’t have the official issue clasp and one decides to purchase a MOD-licenced copy for wear, that isn’t cricket.

HQAC should still address the issue though. They must be getting telephone or email enquiries on a regular basis?

It’s a bigger issue than just CFMs though isn’t it?

The general impression I get is that they’re exceptionally slow at everything.

Asked on valuing our volunteers on sharepoint?

Where? I can’t see it.

I have to admit though, that in anticipation of receiving the full-size clasp, I had my miniatures remounted with a clasp attached to the CFM.

Not that I’ve had the opportunity to wear miniatures over the last 12 months, mind…

My understanding is that with most medals you can wear the ribbon and the appropriate miniature even while you await the full medal to be issued, certainly by convention. I know that with the last Jubilee medal you could wear the miniatures from March/April even though the full-size medals hadn’t been delivered.

I have already had my minutes adjusted to include my clasp and if my next Jubilee medal arrives before my Clasp (which is entirely possible) I will just have a clasp added to my main set of medals when I have them remounted. (I don’t wear my original medals anyway, they are all kept in the original boxes in my nightstand).

I think technically you are still meant to have been gazetted/had it formally confirmed that you are entitled.

Sorry I meant have you?

You’ve waited more than enough time so would warrant asking

Eugh, I’d forgotten about the ballache of getting my miniatures done as well as the proper ones. I need to find someone round here who could do it.

I’m still waiting for my clasp, after having been awarded an empty box for the photo… As they hadn’t arrived yet.

Or, I know a good and reasonably priced tailor if you are happy to put them in the post.
