Bader Squadron Management System v5

I’m giving this one a time out. Everyone chill out, it’s a new system, it’s going to take time to bed in and use is what will highlight the issues.

Sure, there are lots of little bugs… That’s the way of things. This has been a major update.

I reported a number of bugs at about 0030 this morning and by 1100 they were fixed. I call that good service!

I’ve had a look today and there have been some issues, mainly around the events, people not being able to find them without using the dashboard and scrolling through a load of other events.

No total number of cadets or staff on the top of the tabs, all relatively small issues that will get ironed out no doubt.

We are adding that to the v5.1 queue me thinks - thanks for a great idea!

Is it possible to have a default view when adding staff/cadets so that it automatically selects the unit you’re from rather than having to search for it? And a toggle switch to show only activities organised by your unit would also be good (or maybe you could have filters for things run at sqn, wing, region and corps levels so you could instantly get rid of chaff)?

That would be fantastic, my Wing seem to invite us to all sorts of crap which they then never close down!

That should be stopping in future as per the guidance, but if you’re a busy wing you might have a lot of stuff “live” at once so a way to filter out bits would be useful imo

Looked at this tonight and what has improved? Who asked for this exactly?
If HQAC IT bods have this much time to spare, they could be doing something more useful or having a break. Someone has been busy playing with graphics.
There is too much on the “front page”, I’d sooner chose what I want on the front page it’s far too busy. Who decided we need all the information.
Never been a fan of side menus, much sooner have top of the page drop downs.
But we’re stuck with it until someone gets bored and decides to change it.

Really??

Luckily its been built for the future of the RAFAC and I’m guessing from how you’ve talked in the past that you are in your twilight years so wont really impact you long term.

How the future?
How does all this stuff on the front page make if for the future ATC?

Are you trying to get banned for trolling or are you really that stupid?

Can we have a poll on that?

Suggestions?

Oh also @james_elliot there used to be a version number for SMS at the very bottom of the page with the copyright etc, why did that disappear?
Small thing I know but hey.

It’s barely worth even trying to explain it to you…

Suffice to say that people who know a hell of a lot more about technology than you do have been working hard to create a new system which will open the door for us to do a lot more.

The fact that you don’t understand it at all doesn’t mean it’s not a positive move.

No doubt you’ll be decrying the invention of electric light next… It’s the Devil’s work don’t you know!?

I gauge forward thinking concepts and future-proofing intentions by whether or not you support, understand, and engage with it.

As such, I conclude that SMS V5 is perfect.

What “doors” does it open? What can you do on this that you couldn’t before? Seeing a list is not a door that’s been opened.
What forward looking concepts? Is an MIS that is not intended for us, except to be the input monkeys for HQAC shineys. I’ve never seen the need for it and don’t use it more than I have to, as I think my time at the squadron is better spent with the youngsters who join.
What is the future proofing? If it’s future proofed then it should need no more work. In my experience tech is only future proofed for 6-18 months, if not a whole lot shorter, as it relies on short termism and those involved use this to show they have some worth.
Why is not just falling in line with people trolling? I’m asking questions and making points and getting cliché generic answers.
It’s no use coming up with the sort of banal statements that abound in the tech world especially, unless it can be demonstrated to be a positive for everyone.

You’re demeaning people’s hard work and livelihoods.

You’re being offensive to a group of people who have given a lot of effort - voluntary and paid - to give this organisation better tools, better processes, and with an ultimate aim of improving the lives for our volunteers.

You’re damaging the image of this forum and potentially preventing future engagement or consideration by lowering the credibility of the views shared here.

You hide behind anonymity while you spout negativity and ignorance with no intention of engaging with or accepting responses, merely moving goalposts and attempting to shift conversations when you run of ideas once faced with too much reasonable debate.

You pick controversial hills, dig in, and claim innocent intent.

Maybe I’m playing into your hands right now, but I’ve had enough. You sit there making comments like “playing with graphics”, “could be doing something more useful”, plus most of the nonsense you’ve plastered over other threads, and then try to play innocent and claim you’re “just asking questions”?

98% of the time you’re the only one agreeing with you. Yet that either doesn’t register or is what spurs you on. If you’re simply “not falling in line”, then why, with the number and diversity of other contributors, are you so alone here? There’s enough disagreement among the rest of us to show that we don’t all “fall in line”, agree with all policies, or have the same methods… and yet when you type we unite.

The only conclusion possible is that you are a deliberately obtuse contrarian, therefore trolling.

I’m guessing someone hasn’t done the mandatory ACTO10 training…

Quelle surprise!
