ACC Foodies - What are you Eating and Drinking?

No Phaal for me, or I’ll be reviewing every service station toilet from Glasgow to London :joy::joy: That’s what too hot means!

I like flavour, not chewing on a signal flare…

Prompted by @MikeJenvey…,

Coffee… and moreover… has anyone else discovered adaptogenic coffees…?

Our big discoveries of the last few years food wise….

GOOD quality sourdough bread. Not all sourdough bread is the same… the yeast varies from one baker to another.

Sour dough bread compared with mass produced sliced white loaves and even wholemeal loaves is like comparing night with day in terms of health benefits.

Next up… “fermented foods” - alas not wine… but live yoghurts such as kefir and pickled veg such as sauerkraut and kimchi…

Eating for all round gut health - eating the rainbow of fruit & veg…

Trying to minimise processed foods and avoiding sugar and processed carbs such as fructose and corn syrups

Now… feeling the benefits of experimenting with different adaptogenic coffees, make with various fungi extracts such as cordyceps and lions mane…

Wasn’t that the lions mushrooms on clarksons farm?

Yeah - Lisa experimented with drying and turning it into a powder… while they were also serving it up fried in butter…

Thing is - I can’t stand mushrooms… in so much as I hate the texture, the flavour, the aroma… frankly their entire existence… other than from a catering point of view, they’re actually REALLY good for profitability…

When cooking they add bulk, texture, flavour and colour - comparatively cheaply and with very little prep.

Sliced mixed mushrooms, sautéd with salted butter, garlic, tarragon, thyme, oregano, marjoram & black better - served simply on toasted focaccia, sourdough or rye bread…

Or added to stews, casseroles or pie mixes

But I still hated everything about them…

But these new “adaptagenic” or “nootropic” coffees are properly lush!

Delicious. Tadka dhal, saag paneer, crispy kale and a naan!

All homemade, except the naan… I don’t think homemade can beat the clay oven bakery naans from Tesco!

Pretentious lunch alert…

Roasted halloumi and peppers on smashed avocado blanket, draped over a slice of freshly baked sour dough topped with sweet chilli sauce.

Less pretentious alert…

With a side of spicy NikNaks and a Pepsi Max.

Need to up your game with Pepsi Max Cherry

Just smashed out a batch of West African Peanut Soup using largely homegrown ingredients!!! The last of our 2024 onions and squash, the final few leaves of kale, plus home grown garlic and a jar of passata from our tomatoes - even used chicken stock from last week’s roast chicken carcass for good measure! The only thing NOT from the farm was that critical ingredient - a jar of chunky peanut butter!

So now I’m looking for ways to grow my own peanuts for 2025!!

IKEA coffee. Surprisingly good for £1.25 per mug.

Edit to add… Made better by the machine being broken and on free vend!

To be fair I’ve had a few McDonalds and Greggs coffees of late due to being out and about for work. Not that much different to the £3.25 barista effort I had this morning. But then you’re paying for the surroundings.

(And IKEA should really give anyone who braves their premises a free brew!)

Last time I was there it was £1.25 for the mug, but you could refill as many times as you liked!

Best bit is the apple cake.

I read somewhere starbucks provide the beans and its half the price

We were in Southampton a few weeks ago. Was still the case.

We frequently go to get the food to keep the house stocked :joy:
