The whole VA response was very much tinged with the scent of disdain at giving anything to a volunteer. The quoted sentence is a horrible thing to have said and completely ignorant of the personal costs.

Maybe that’s what he meant, but in the context of “we need reduce how much this costs us” doesn’t quite mesh with what was said.
It’s also a management and policy issue. You could add extra strings. I don’t think it’s wrong to have ditched the monthly hours, but you could add that type of hurdle back in to the mix for claiming above a certain number of days. There is no obligation to pay above the stated allowance, so it’s not as controversial to add extra requirements onto those extra claims.
am concerned that the new syllabus is focused to the ATC an ignores the CCF. How will the syllabus work for cadets who are going to get 10 GCSEs at grades 9, 8, and 7 and for whom BTec is a dirty word (yes really)?
Are ATC cadets not capable of this? Are CCF cadets guaranteed this?
