You know what really makes me happy?

Didn’t the BBC supply coding kits to all schools a couple of years ago to encourage exactly this?

Grumbled about being kicked out after many years and some health issues… and overworking volunteers… it sounded like there was a lot of context missing in fairness.

I hope so, it makes good sense and if we could put an aviation context to it that would be fantastic.

Quite possibly. After seeing the local Raspberry Pi shop selling kit for as little as £30 I thought it was very accessible…I asked my lot if they were using it at school and they all said they’d seen it but due to bad behaviour they weren’t able to access it.

So what exactly do they do in ICT these days if it isn’t programming?

Just back from our first bit of AT since 2019.

Chuffed to bits  Little interest from cadets, but those who did come said they really enjoyed it and it has given me a big morale boost.

This org is at risk of becoming a staff club…

I can’t pressgang cadets into attending.

There were only two staff so hardly a jolly for the lads.

Also this is the first off-squadron activity we’ve organised since returning to face to face so I’m not surprised if numbers are low. Frankly I appreciate it as a safer environment to rebuild experience.

I think Paracetamol meant that the lack of interest is a problem for the organisation. Personally we’ve had incredibly little engagement.

But what makes me happy is that we’re getting back to it and that same old enthusiasm will soon return I’m sure

Ah ok, that’s a fair point.

I think it’s very much about rebuilding the momentum we had before. Getting staff and cadets back into the habit of planning, signing up for and attending weekend activities.

With my squadron we’ve lost pretty much all of our experienced cadets so we’re having to do all this with a completely new cohort of cadets too.

Yes this.
Not the specific activity mentioned.

Uptake on all things seems low.

I see the wording has changed slightly, from “appointed its first ever volunteer Group Captain” to “appointed . . . first ever Senior Volunteer Advisor in the rank of Group Captain”. The former sort of ignored Gp Capts Vorderman and Hoy (whatever happened to him?).
I also see that “Our CFAV’s help our organisation run smoothly!)”.
Help? So who is it that is actually making the organisation run smoothly and that we are merely helping?

Well, we’re helping keep them in a job anyway.

Our what?..

Sorry, just vommed everywhere.

Tongue firmly in cheek there eh lol?
Couldn’t have put it better myself. I do miss the old days when you could pop in to WHQ for help/chat/brew or just to drop off/collect the post. Now you have to make an appointment (if you’re lucky), and def no chance of a brew. I see the day when we may have to make an email appointment to even telephone!
I know that everyone at WHQ is busy (or jolly well should be!) but that applies to us all!
Whatever happened to “Value the Volunteers”?

I come down on the other side of that. That kid is going to get enough bullying as it is because of their dad, especially if they are no good at sports. But add in that name and it’s just painting a massive target on their back.

My brother doesn’t speak to me cause I told him the insane names he gave his twin daughters are going to make their time at school hell

From what you’ve told us about your brother that doesn’t sound like a bad thing :zipper_mouth_face:

It’s in the finest tradition of Frank Zappa

That’s going to work well when he is pulled by the fuzz and they ask him for his name.

Knew a girl who who’s surname didn’t go down well when the Police asked her for her details and she answered “Mary Copp”

Making me happy is that tomorrow I’m attending a work team building bike ride in the new forest given how it’s outside and the last opportunity before hard core stem cell treatment shielding begins. I will actually see people except those I live with for the first time since October… Can not wait!

Getting an invite to the award evening where two of my cadets will finally be getting the Deputy Lieutenant’s Commendation that they were awarded just as Covid first hit.
