How much have you saving in your electric bills over the first half of 2026 compared to 2025 with this set up?

I assume you have gas for heating so no savings there?

i had my PVs installed late 2023, so the £65/month saving relates to the difference before and 6 months after

Edit to add: early 24 we bough a EV which has been charged at home exclusively except on two occasions and only then in the last 3 months.

in mid-2025 i had an Octopus ASHP installed which has further reduced my bill by £25-30/month.
so despite the hot water and house heating moving from gas to electricity, i have still made a saving on my electricity bill (not all down to the PV and batteries, but they certainly help!)

Just got buzzed by an MV22 in the wild. I was so excited that I squeaked. Everybody looked at me weirdly.

No gas in the village. It’s all electric.

A few houses have oil, but it’s not common.

Current loading.

Nearly 10K kWh produced.

Current loading is dishwasher, washing machine, kids watching TV, amd cooking.

Been doing touch and goes at Bournemouth all day too

That requires a different set-up compared to many solar set-ups - we have a battery with ours (13KW/Hr I think) but if we have a power cut, then the power is “stuck” - requires 240V mains to control it.

We also have a charger for Mrs J’s PHEV, so get the discounted Octopus low rate for 6 hrs overnight.

Compared to the identical house next door (all the properties are all electric, no gas), our costs are 50% of theirs - ours averages £100 / month, with summer months considerably lower of course. Last 2 weeks, average weekly cost has been £10 with about £4 exported to grid. It would be more, but we are running an air conditioning unit from about 0800 - 1900 on hot days & also warming up (slightly) a hot tub a few days a week. :wink:

We use about 75% of our consumption on the low rate (car charging, washing machine, dishwasher on delayed cycles).

Easily done.

Obviously over winter, with a much shallower sun angle (& less of it), the solar generation reduces considerably but as we are on the appropriate tariff, our battery is topped up overnight & pretty much lasts to around mid-day to cover all the heating from the ASHP.

Oil boiler and no A/C means that our house load doesn’t really fluctuate much throughout the year. I’ve actually found the biggest affecter is school holidays, because the EV usually does our (fairly long) school run.

Our battery has enough to nearly cover that house usage, so it’s only on the zero-sun days that we have to import anything on the day rate.

Also has the nice benefit that we buy almost everything at 7.5 p/kWh, but we sell at 15!

I’ve seen some projects where people have set up pretty considerable battery arrays, without solar, and then use a EV/Solar tariff to make money. Charge the battery on the cheap power, sell it during the peak.

I think there was a guy who made his own battery out of multiple full tesla packs. His limit was his maximum power in/out. Pretty cool

If not already in place with some providers, there will be the option to use your EV as an extra battery, either for running household consumption, or, exporting to grid.

Adds to the number of eventual charges on the EV though.
