Flying trade though; Master Aircrew
You think he’s on a VGS?
Nah, he actually flys.
Been there long enough to remember Pontius before he became a pilot, using old equipment that’s not been upgraded in centuries, flies the same old circuit every time…
…sounds right.
When you never check an aircraft registration & suddenly have an overwhelming need to do so…
Nope, it wasn’t a MAX.
Onboard WiFi? Fancy! (Or is that normal now?)
Nah - this flight was pay for everything!
However, my very nice flight in biz class on Emirates earlier this month…
Now that would make me happy!
I have no need to fly long haul anywhere though
Well, with some hotspot political boundaries to avoid, & 130 kts of headwind over Saudi yesterday, it took 7.5 hrs to get to central Europe. My Emirates flight took just under 7 hrs from UK!
Oof, that looks nice! (read - expensive )
I’ve only gone long haul once, and that was years ago.
Regularly fly short haul business. It’s BA though so I only go business for the lounge and the extra full weight bag!
Company paid. And the 70 mile drive each way to a doctor to get a last minute PCR test / “for to fly” certificate.
Short haul in Europe currently a nightmare, especially when booking with limited notice (normal standard for my type of commercial flights). BA are running a skeleton service (as for other airlines), very few flights per day even between major cities, & often short notice cancellations.
The day before UK lockdown, I had to get to Hamburg. Only option to fit in with desired timings was via Zürich!! LHR was a bun fight.
Much to my surprise, it was a B777 - full of us sardines!
Today, where normally there would have been 4-5 direct flights between the 2 cities, today = none. My colleague had to jump on the company aircraft - then take a scenic 4 hrs train ride. Otherwise, it would have been a much longer option with an airline connection somewhere.
Paid off the last of my student loan!
You clearly earn too much!
Nice work though
He could just be 95 years old…
If he was that old he wouldn’t have had a student loan. Saying that, it looks like they take many, many years to pay off.
If accurate, from one source:
“For those with a Plan 1 loan that period is 25 years; for those with a Plan 2 loan it is 30 years. Student loans issued before 2007 do not get written off until the borrower turns 65.”
Various repayment thresholds.
In many ways, it’s the fairest tax system we have. It only applies to those well off enough to actually pay it.
Well done though, it must feel rather good!
I’ve got about 5 years left on mine, although if the JAC like me at interview in February that will halve.
It’s a relief, and it will be nice not having to remember it every year on top of my Self assessment. (Annual tax is always a kicker, then remembering there’s another chunk on top!)
However, it’s not as good as paying off my postgrad loan felt, as that was a monthly repayment scheme starting only 12 months after 4th year, when I was absolutely broke and jobless. I was able to pay it off and immediately leave that bank straight after. I hated those guys.
