You know what really makes me happy?

Chief of Staff’s weekly updates on Social Media, nice and short with a little about him but nothing special about it.

This week’s even says about looking on Bader / chain of command for news.

They have been many many many times better than Dawn’s ever were. He genuinely seems like an interesting chap. I’d like to meet him.

He Can run a half marathon in 94 mins according to the running website I’m part of… That’s pretty damn impressive

That’s a shade over 7 minutes per mile for 13.1 miles. I’ve met the guy and he didn’t (outwardly) look that fit to me! I know looks can be deceptive but…

I’ve done the Great North Run (which starts in Gods own City) 12 times and my quickest time in sports kit was 2hrs 08mins (9m per mile). We once did a team run in boots and 40lb bergens which took us 2hrs 35mins (11mins per mile).

It’s good to see people making something out of these strange times and keeping their business “afloat”. Hats off to the man.

That’s hardly an “essential Service” it should be the last thing to restart, is that not right? I’ve include your own comment below in case you forgot!!

It’s a business, he takes money, pays tax etc keeps the economy going and the public sector (which we get funded through), given it is relies almost exclusively on handouts from the exchequer. What would you rather see the bloke have to sell his boat and go “on the dole”? If you’re in business and don’t look for and or take opportunities, then you won’t be. Even if you work for someone and see what you think is an opportunity it would be daft not to mention it.

I stand by what I say we are not essential, in any way, we like so many things in the volunteer sector are a ‘nice to have’ in society. If we went no CFAV would suffer any financial loss ( bar a few hundred quid if you tick the boxes to claim), it would be a real shame for the 30 odd thousand kids across the UK and be lamented by people like us. But as many of us do already, we would volunteer elsewhere, as it’s ingrained in our psyche. Likewise many cadets who have always seemed to do other things and fit the ATC around it, would do other things. Currently and in the last few years, cadets from our sqn have played football, rugby, cricket, netball, swam for local clubs, athletics, played instruments in orchestras, ensembles, bands, performing arts, martial arts, “Scouts” and one who volunteered at a food bank. Some of us staff are involved in other things and have to juggle them with the ATC, work and home.

Like the RNLI, Mountain Rescue, and countless charities that support people who’ve fallen through the net of the state. This country has a serious problem with expecting vital public services to be delivered by volunteers.

A number of these charities seem to come about organically and be very, very local, with people running them doing nicely as a result. If we were to have these things fully funded by the taxpayer I shudder to think what personal taxation would be.
Also would you really want ‘the state’ controlling the sort of things mentioned? Or to have the freedom to operate as they do?
I’m all for state control and funding to be the absolute minimum and likewise with direct taxation.
We’ve got a few niche groups funded by the LA, the heads of these are on salaries £35K plus with staff all getting a salary. God knows what they do all day other than probably have meetings for the sake of it, produce leaflets and run ‘groups’, tax money well spent in the main … I think not.

you mean like the 999 emergency services??? or until recently the RAF looking after the SAR role? (and now completed by Government contractors)

yeah…heaven forbid those “vitals public services” are controlled by the state, it would be awful

Stop arguing with it! It doesn’t listen to reason.

I cannot help it if people pick holes. I’ve admired people who have found ways to keep their businesses going since March. But it seems some are not so enamoured.

Anyone get the feeling he likes bees? I love this guy

Marc Hirschi’s insane ride on the Tour de France today. 75km solo breakaway, hopping over traffic islands and caught with just 1km to go, utter madness.

Regional news, travel and weather is back on the BBC morning news.

Never went away here…
