Makes me sad - Plane crash in Ongar field kills two during flight experience - BBC News

I’m the prosecutor in a very, very simple sexual assault. It’s a bum grabbing in a corner shop.

The CCTV is incredible quality, shows the defendant clearly clocking the complainant, follow her around the store and deliberately place his hands on both buttocks in turn. Her reaction is immediate covering her bum with her hands in shock.

It happened in 2024.

First trial listing April 2025, adjourned to this week due to lack of court time.

Doesn’t get on this week, witness wasn’t warned to attend properly, defendant is being investigated for early onset Alzheimer’s.

Relisted, March 2027. That was the next available date.

Surely something like this could theoretically be decided on the basis of personal statements because there’s crystal clear CCTV?

If we’re looking at theoretical ways to sort the backlog, at least.

Without her to say that he clenched, which you can’t clearly see in the CCTV, he could just say he was moving her out the way, he could still be convicted, but I can’t read her statement as it’s not agreed.

It should, realistically take a day and a bit, with jury deliberation.

It should’ve been a guilty plea……defence need to give their client a shake.

Also 2027, you lucky lucky barsteward, what I would give for an available court date in 2027, we have jobs being listed in 2030.

We have much better listing in SW. But it’s still stupid we can’t find a day.

And yes, he should have pleaded. He’s running a lot of nonsense, and in his third set of solicitors.

this could be a GMG but my employer has updated the ā€œsite rulesā€ and offered some classics…

in here because it feels like HQAC wrote them

  1. RECORDING:
Employees must not use any camera or other photographic, recording or broadcasting equipment on Company premises without first obtaining permission from senior management.

problem this causes: that is fine, except, when i started there was a ā€œteam cameraā€ - a pocket sized digital camera that no doubt we all had before smart phones became smart (and with incredible cameras)

in those days photos of samples, or best practise or whatever was taken on the team camera. it would be used often twice a day as someone in the team had something to photograph

those cameras haven’t been seen for 10+ years (likely hidden in a desk drawer somewhere and forgotten about), everyone’s personal phone offers better quality, ease of use (both in taking the photo, and getting it off the device) and readily available.
the wording however now suggests to take any photo, i need permission not of my boss, but his boss
#unworkable

Leaving site without permission from management

problem: approx ~20 of the company leave site for lunch, either to run errands in town, have lunch at home, or to let the dog out (those who literally live in town)
this is a common practice and the sign in/out sheets are set up for being off site at lunch.

the wording however now suggests we need permission to do so

#why

The recreational use of personal mobile phones, smart phones, tablets or other
devices is strictly prohibited at all times on site including offices and production areas
(including refreshment rooms), engineering workshops, storage and warehouse
areas.Personal devices may be used for these recreational activities during recognised meal breaks in designated
areas.

problem - firstly see above regarding "recording "
from a distance (either at their desk or in the lab) how is anyone going to know if someone is using their phone for business or recreational use?

Secondly, weekly one or more of the team will share a photo walking to or at the coffee machine (a ā€œrefreshment roomā€) of what they got up to over the weekend/the previous evening. this is typical behaviour and part of ā€œteam bondingā€ yet is effectively banned.

in all cases i know why the rule is there, and what is is trying to stop - but that isn’t how it is worded - reminds me of the SDC document.

Well, yesterday was a good day for 4 of our cadets, as it meant they got to finally do some shooting after being let down in the past (Which couldn’t be helped, as life meant the RCO had to cancel)

We had to take them to another Sqn 35 mins away, but the bit that annoyed me was that I had to be the second adult passenger in our bus.

So what I could have been doing on sqn, I couldn’t as I needed to babysit the officer who drove, as he was involved in the first aid. I did ask if I could do anything as I was basically just standing around scratching my ā– ā– ā– ā–  but what can a 3rd wheel do apart from now babysit the cadets who were waiting to shoot.
Is this really the future of how it’s going to be now :man_shrugging:

Having two staff for a minibus of kids is probably the least egregious issue with the directive.

We have had that rule in the SCC for ages.

We were doing it anyway as a mitigation on our travel RA. The driver shouldn’t also be supervising cadet behaviour, which could become distracting.

For a minibus it does make sense. Especially if there’s more than 10 cadets as you’d normally be needed two staff anyway.

For a car though, with 3 or 4 cadets, I’m not convinced 2 CFAV are needed.

The SCD agrees (for three cadets, sat in the back, at least).

We did use 18+ cadets before they were classed as kids. I’m just irked that I was taken from sqn to stand around looking pretty. And 4 cadets that could have gone in his car, but for cadet activities, he used the minibus. I’d understand if it were more than the 4 cadets.

GMG keep seeing social media posts listing pilot officer rank as PO or P/O

People talk about focusing on the little details by why do they ignore this which at the very least is ignorant of the other services

I keep seeing it in people’s email signatures - you’d hope that people would know their own rank

Still see people using 'Flt Sgt’ all the time too. Not a fan!

Yeh it really annoys me when people dismiss this stuff as unimportant when you point it out.

I care about getting it all right and I’m always super grateful when someone takes the time to point out I’ve misunderstood something.

So tempted to start being petty & refer to people as petty officer when contacting them.

Flt Sgt I understand as that is a combination of two official abbreviations and was used for a little bit - it’s old school but was used.

PO is a formal abbreviation for a different rank.

I still see PO used for Plt Off in admin orders and other official docs.

Hopeless at tri service events!
