staff putting on social media that hair policy is different for males and females forgetting IBN 25-2021 stated that hair policy is now gender neutral and quoting AP1358c as chapter and verse to prove this

HQAC taking down IBN 25-2021 and not updating AP 1358c to reflect the change in policy stated in IBN 25-2021.

Despite this, if I went up to my OC and said, Iā€™m going to grow my hair down and tie it in a bun as in the ā€œfemaleā€ regulations. Iā€™m sure he would disapprove along with most other staff, especially drill instructors.

He can disapprove as much as he wants but canā€™t stop you unless itā€™s on H&S grounds.

I thought the rules are in line with men wearing a dress, in terms that the Wing Commander has to approve, or that the Commander of your wing has to approve you having a beard. Or the person they delegated the authority to.

AP1358C has been updated, Para 0150 - 0157 refer and include the new images as well for hair to be worn down.

Well, now I know what Iā€™m going to be doing with my hair given I have now been enlightened on the hair regs

If met with that attitude from anyone in my wing i would be happy to have that re-educational conversation, people need to get with the times.

Most dress reg overide authority sits with the RC

0150-0157 still refers to Males and females, the IBN clearly stated that our hair policy was now gender neutral and would follow the the female policy.

I would suggest that the policy in AP1358c is not following what was stated in the IBN. We still have a policy which is discriminatory.

And once again we see why policy change by IBN is an unsuitable way of doing routine changes.

It would seam that AP1358c has not been updated inline with IBM 25-2021. Release date of IBN is the 30 Sep 21. Date of last update to AP 1358c 8 Sep 21.

Be interesting to hear a re-educational conversation with this lady.

Im fine with that hair. But if someone says no you cant have your hair like that in the image even though its enabled in regs, then they need to be challengedā€¦ Its more stopping dinosaurs trying to mandate historic, and not with the times regulations because they prefer it

Honestly though, the one at the backā€™s hair has been left to grow so much itā€™s covering the entire body. Standards!!

I suspect the AVM No 2 Group RAF could be quite robust in her comments in reply. Maybe people need to keep a picture of the AVM in their pocket.

As soon as the notification came for a change in policy, whoever is responsible for the books, makes the changes in it and publishes it. It ainā€™t difficult.

GMG volunteers from another organisation expecting me to do their leg work

With my RBL hat on: Weā€™ve got an item we have no further use for, but potentially has ā€œhistorical importanceā€ even though we know its face value is <Ā£25. Rather than simply scrap it weā€™ve offered it to the local History society as curators of all things ā€œlocal historyā€ - admittedly 99% of their collection is old photos and newspaper articles but this item although 3ftx4ft is only 3mm thick so although large, can easily be slid behind something.

The History society agreed to take it, but claimed ā€œwe have no roomā€ (I believe they only saw the largest dimensions rather than its thickness ā€“ or rather thinness). The next day they get back in touch, the local council offices are happy to store it as they have the room.

I reply: ā€œgreat news glad you have found a place for storageā€

I chase up two weeks later: ā€œany news on when youā€™ll be collecting the sign?ā€

History society ā€“ sends back an email of woe repeating the lack of space they have and how they found the alternative and then explain they expected me to sort it out.

Me: errā€¦.no. you have agreed you want the item, you can agree to collect it and deliver to your storage solution.
