You know what really grinds my gears? The Gears Strike Back

Dropping on to ACC to see the @themajor has posted in GMG, just after I’ve messaged him about more cadet work he needs to do… (not the Pen Pictures)…and wondering if he’s ranting about me…

Yes. Not in and of itself, but it’s representative of the wider dirge of common sense, knowledge and judgement in the organisation that we all care about and want to improve. It’s been done solely to tick a box with the astra wonks and score points with the Cmdt.

And on top of all that, it’s appallingly bad English.

Thats what messengers for… :eyes:

When the school email you in the afternoon to say the kid needs a smart outfit the next day because they are doing a mock wedding in reception to celebrate their teacher getting engaged (the whole thing is bovine excrement). Both parents at work today and kids in after school care until 6. He wore his smart outfit for Easter and we’ve not caught up on the washing yet.

How are teachers so bad at giving people notice? I see this at CCF as well where you can certainly tell the teaching staff from the external volunteers when it comes to giving kids and parents notice of activities.

Welcome to the world of email etc where people sending them just expect everyone to pick them up instantly and be able to react immediately.
Schools and youth groups/clubs have been doing short notice stuff like this for years and work on the assumption that parents will jump through hoops so their kids don’t feel left out. At least you have something they can wear. I bet that some go as a superhero, princess etc.

Ah yes because pre-email it was impossible to send a letter home with children to give to their parents.

Wing activity starting this evening (and going on all weekend) only submitted to region for approval yesterday, and they’ve asked for amendments - one of which is approval from HQAC!

Guessing that activity will be binned then…

SMS event I have been asked to share to cadets has literally the date, location and name of the event. Nothing else - most notably no transport info, which is critical before we commit any cadets, being a rural squadron.

Edit - big event too - Wing level.

That’s where you’re wrong  If a squadron had done this, then yes, it will be rejected andsorry nothing we can do but when it’s a WSO it’ll somehow magically be approved or they’ll just carry on regardless :man_shrugging:

Parcel pickup and new parcel delivery from DPD carefully arranged for the same day, including paying extra for a named day delivery.

Parcel gets delayed in depot for unknown reason. Now will be two visits. Ironically on Earth Day.

Was it scrubbed?

Nope. Wing event still requires HQ sign off, but it’s going ahead despite not yet getting it. Which makes perfect sense…

So what will be the fall out if :-

  1. there’s an accident needing a 492?
  2. it’s reported as a breach of the SSoT to the TSA?

Considering Sqn Cdrs (Wg Cdrs!) have been sacked over similar action & less it does seem double standards.

Energy companies coming up with an idea that the taxpayer (via the govt) should give people … taxpayers … a grand to help pay energy bills. As the people paying the bills are taxpayers this seems to be skewed thinking and avoiding the real solution that the energy companies could reduce what they are charging before it becomes a real problem and at the same time lessen the impact on cost of living.

Energy companies have benefited from taxpayer handouts to build wind farms, when these should have been solely funded through share issues and private investment. Maybe they should be made to give the money back as these things are now established.

They were doing that 9 months ago and many energy businesses went bust remember?
The priced charged to customers was less than cost and so energy companies lost money and went bust

Most of those companies were not producers, they were suppliers who were buying it and undercutting those with the infrastructure costs, so in many ways just a rebalancing of the energy business. So when the prices they had to pay went up they couldn’t undercut them anymore. This was a business model that was never stable as has been proved.

Now we have the situation where the energy companies were told they can increase what they charge and rather than do it sensibly among all the other costs rising they have added to the mess. And now it seems expect us the taxpayer to bail them out. It’s not like they wouldn’t have made money.

I think your causation is off here.

The increase in energy prices is a huge driving factor in all of the other price increases, not something happening in isolation at the same time.
