You know what really grinds my gears? The Gears Strike Back

I often find myself at events where my sole duty is media. Usually it’s because I’ve been asked, but occasionally I will volunteer my time.

You are lucky. The only people who seem to ask for me are actually external people I meet at community activities. County stuff isn’t too bad as I know when it is and can usually turn up to a few things, but it does sadden me when I know great activities are happening at brigade and national level and they never think to organise photography.

It’s freezing cold outside tonight… So when driving home she’s complaining its too hot and proceeds to put the air con on… It was colder in my car than it was outside…

My wife does this. If she’s too hot, she whacks the air con to high, then gets cold. Or, when she’s cold, she flicks the vents so they’re not pointing at her. Then I can’t work out why I’m cold when I keep sneaking the temperature up on my side, it’s because she’s pointed her cold vents at me.

Why can’t they just adjust the temperature to a happy medium? Rather than dance between extremes.

And of course when the temperatures do start to drop in the house they’d rather whack the central heating up instead of putting on a couple of extra layers/getting a blanket out.

Oh the advantages of climate control in the car and being single. My car stays at 19C and on ‘auto’ year round, with the exception of cold morning where I go full whack to de-frost

You want to work in an office with two menopausal women forever changing the air con and expecting you to take sides.

Another story of the oxygen thieving idiots (can’t put my true feelings) blocking roads.

I’ve seen a few photos with arctics at the front of the queue. I’d be nudging them out of the way and then see what the police do. What would be ironic if one of them has something happen and the ambulance couldn’t get to them. They don’t seem bothered in the slightest about problems it causes for others, so why should anyone care about them.

The biggest laugh is if they probably think their actions are drawing people to their cause.

This is probably how people felt about the suffragists and suffragettes…

OK that’s an odd comparison. You can’t honestly think it’s rational to compare those women with these idiots who are looking for govt handouts to insulate houses. You can’t expect the taxpayer to stump for all things people should pay for., especially now after 18 months and longer of unprecedented use of taxpayers money. Do what normal people do and pay for things. And like the XR wasters think that disrupting people’s lives is going to endear us to them.
I suppose it’ll be OK if you or one of your nearest and dearest are affected in some way?
Watch the film on the BBC where a woman trying to get to see her elderly mother pleading with these idiots to move out of the way and they just ignore her. There have been several stories of ambulances being held up and people suffering as a result of these idiots blocking roads. No concept of hearts and minds. It’s just like when you get an RTA that closes a major road, the local roads soon clog up as people divert.

except it is a benefit to the taxpayer:

the group’s demands are in line with consensus among climate scientists and policy experts that home insulation—including when retrofitted—is an environmental priority, saves money to occupants and is beneficial to the economy.

Its the perfect comparison. These people are correct, what they’re asking for is sensible and necessary. Their methods are hated.

All of the same things applied to women seeking the vote by direct action. At the time, they were treated like terrorists, it’s only now, looking back with hindsight that we think everyone else was mad.

Taking devils advocate position…

Suffragettes to my knowledge didnt stop ambulances getting through.

Or people trying to see loved ones in hospital.

They also didnt then do the equivalent hypocracy of flying away for intercontinental holidays with all the attached hypocracy like some of the insulate protestors have been found to…

And if one of these individuals were injured during their demonstrations, would their colleagues hold up an ambulance trying to get to the scene :man_shrugging:t2:

…but they did take action designed to disrupt people and garner attention. I’d suggest that if today’s Road network (and reliance on it) existed back then, they probably would have blocked it.

“…they cut telephone wires, set unoccupied churches on fire, broke windows, threw rocks, were dragged through the streets by the police, engaged in hunger strikes”

Many civil rights protesters also marched along roads, including MLK who I think was involved in blocking the Selma bridge.

Disruption has a history of working, and (not to ignore or discount some of negative consequences) in this instance has very successfully achieved intended outcomes - publicity, web traffic, news time, etc. So it doesn’t matter that a few people get upset.

That was my sqn’s policy back when I was a cadet (late 90s through early 00s). Only ever wore my working blues on camps.

Exactly, most people have such a limited knowledge of the history of the movement, mostly not even appreciating it had two distinct camps, the suffragists (both men and women) who wanted the vote for women, but didn’t support the direct action, and the more famous suffragettes, who were happy to do a lot to achieve it:

Daisy on the TV show Never mind the Buzzcocks.

She finds everything excessively funny and I find it so very irritating.

It’s back? Shut the front door I loved that show!
