Was that the alcoholic 2IC from Band of Brothers?

Office Space is in my Top 10 films of all time. Mostly because I live through ā€œPC load letterā€ actually happening routinely.

I have never seen this film. But it is on Disney Plus, so I shall.

In printer news. What started with a dry Magenta cartridge has somehow turned into a broken yellow cartridge, via a stage where the printer didn’t recognise either it’s own print head, or any of the cartridges?

New printer time.

I’m close to pulling that trigger I’ll be honest, but I’d rather avoid printer shopping for a bit longer if I can avoid it. I’ve decided to give it one more chance, and see if new cartridges sort it out. The annoying this is that the last print quality report before it decided that the yellow was broken had finally chucked a little bit of Magenta out at last.

I hear that scientists reckon we’re less than a decade away from a fully functioning printer!

Massively GMG: HQAC staff attaching a 650 kb file to an email sent to every Sqn-based email account.

:mega: :mega: Hey, everyone, a reminder for you - that’s precisely what Sharepoint is for

When files are attached, it means that every email account then contains a copy of that file (and the memory won’t be freed up, especially in the short term, even if you delete the email).

1000 units * 5 email addresses * 650 kb = 3.5 Gb of totally inappropriate memory usage (and infrastructure level storage isn’t actually particularly cheap)

Mother in law popped in for a suprise visit on Saturday. Now she just had a positive covid test. Yey for self isolation for us all. Three kids, and a wife who is miserable about it taking her last week of maternity leave. It’s going to be a long 10 days, and a highly inefficient time at work.

Off the Xmas card list?

Yup. Though I’d never have her on it if it was up to me. She apparently was really lax about the kids wearing masks in her lessons for the last few weeks, but didn’t tell us this before now.

Grass her up :joy::joy:

Not to mention the carbon cost!

Servers arent carbon neutral… all that data has a carbon cost…

ASTRA and all that… you’d think they would try.

There is a chronic lack of IT training in this organisation - hard to blame people really.

In fairness… said HQAC staff is a volunteer (who I’m sure will see this) and has absolutely no reason to know any of what’s just been said

And will people really click through to a onedrive/SP link? Personally, unless it’s important/something I want to know about, I’d only bother to open a file if it’s convenient (attached). I’m usually checking emails on my phone and don’t want to log into O365.

yeh, it was a rant at it happening in general, rather than at the person

plenty of organisations have now banned attaching files to emails that only have internal recipients
