Yet another uniform rant

Ah, the Bee-dive and the Aviator. In years gone by we used to have the Osprey as well.

Yeah the Ospray was about on my first tour closed about 2002 ish?? the buildling has been empty since. The Aviator has now changed back to the Eagle still the same old thing!

You know a place has character when you have to paddle from the bar to the urinal…

[cough]back on topic[/cough]

Ahh memories come flooding back Thursday night in Carterton, then back to the Spotlight. Saturdays were even worse.

From the look of your avatar, you were an ‘Electric Chicken’?

Yes i was. I was there 92-96

Take it to PM please.

Hmm, I’m sure I saw Waafs in blue uniform in the 70s and they were definitely in blues in the 80s on my IOT![/quote]

I joined up in 1989 and they didn’t exist then.

I said blue uniform TROUSERS.

They weren’t issued until sometime around the late 90s/early 2000s. The only option prior to that was skirts (though in the 80s and 90s female cadets did tend to get a temporary and unofficial issue of men’s trousers for things like flying and shooting - both activites being done in No.2 Working Blue in those days).

Wow, I’m surprised at what I would call the old fashion approach on wearing skirts - I thought that disappeared a good few years ago.

Females have a choice of trousers or skirts for ANY event including formal parades. Some girls prefer trousers, some prefer skirts and it isn’t an issue. If they require trousers then there obviously doing an activity that requires greens - first aid (practical) shooting etc

As for the rubbish of they all need to look the same, therefore you have to wear a skirt on formal parades - it won’t because the males will (presumably) be in trousers.

I don’t think you should be skirts entirely because for me I prefer my skirt and very rarely wear my trousers (normal when this argument comes up at the Sqn and I’ll wear them just to annoy the person saying it) however there are some females out there who will never ever wear a skirt.

With a lot of these views it’s difficult for somebody who wants to wear trousers to ask for them. Imagine being the first one brave enough to wear them, guaranteed once 1 or 2 girls start wearing them - others will follow because they will be comfortable and not getting odd stares!!

There should not be a lack in stock - when you order there first issue you get their size in skirt and trouser - problem solved (until they grow and you have to order some new ones)

I agree with you however when it comes to formal parades either all females wear skirts or trousers we shouldnt have a mixture of the two on said parade you wouldnt have a mixture with jumpers and without.

Thats how the RAF do it and as cadets are “borrowing” an RAF uniform thats how in my opinion it should be done.

Saying that I do agree that on a normal night in uniform females should be able to choose the big question is what do I do with the male cadets that want to wear a skirt?? :stuck_out_tongue:

See this suprises me - if you have male an females on a parade it’s going to be mixed anyways - and on an RAF parade they also get a choice on whether they wear trousers or not. It is very different to having some in jumpers some is not.

They only get the choice during the normal working day in the RAF when on parade they will be told to wear one or the other you wont see a mix 9 times out of 10 it will be skirts.

unless it has changed in the last two years when I left the RAF. When I was a DI at Halton in RTS females are not allowe to wear trousers full stop

You did indeed! But I refer the gentleman to my earlier comment. I had 2 waafies on my shift in 1986, definitely in trousers and by the look of them if I recall, not blokes’ ones either! Maybe a trial? But at the end of the day, who really cares?

I know this is from AP1358 which is RAF not ATC I dont have the ATC dress regs to hand but here is the RAF view on parades for females

SD uniform for unit ceremonial occasions will be set by the Stn Cdr, who will decide whether skirts or trousers are to be worn. For more major, national or state ceremonial occasions the mode of dress will be as directed by SO1 RAF Ceremonial. Mixed dress of skirts or trousers is not permitted within a parade.

My bold with the RAF being the parent service should we not go by them unless ATC regs say otherwise? But like I said I cant check at the moment

By the way purpleshoes like I said before I do agree with most of what you said! Looks like your new here so welcome and hope I havent peed you off :stuck_out_tongue:

AP138C agrees: “0302. Ceremonial Occasions/Females on Parade. Mixed dress of skirts or trousers is not permitted within a parade. When on unit ceremonial duties or
parade, the parade sponsor will decide whether skirts or trousers are to be worn.”

Thanks for looking couldnt find my copy of AP1358C.

I had a feeling I had seen it but didnt want to say until I knew for sure

Exactamundo.

Hi, zinggy. Totally changed. They have the choice. Most wear trousers. The majority of passing out parades now take place in trousers. And the hand out on ‘dress standards’ all troops going through Halton get shows women in trousers not skirts. I could try and scan my copy in (but I’m not sure if that would technically be breaking all sorts of rules…)
