Summarised nicely in this video
So Iran has said they will not surrender. They’ve also directly threatened America if they intervene at all. Isn’t this all getting exciting…
Iran’s leader says US military action ‘will be met with irreparable harm’
To mis-quote from “There’s a hole in my bucket” (youngsters, here you go - sorry about the ad! ):
“With what will you harm me, dear Lisa, dear Lisa, with what will you harm me, dear Lisa, with what?”
At the end of the day it will be down to money. China won’t want to cut off trade with NATO countries, which will inevitably happen should China and the US come to blows. They aren’t going to risk $trillions for Iran, who import less from China than Belgium does, when it gets them nothing in return.
So what does Iran actually have the ability to do? Certainly strong words, but I can’t imagine they are an actual threat to the US?
Realistically, they have to; anything else appears weak and Iran as a state relies on the appearance of strength, whether actual or imaginary.
But we’ve also seen how, whilst there is some level of response to Israel, it’s not the most effective. The likelihood of Iran therefore being able to target American infrastructure outside of the Middle East is almost none.
My understanding is that the threat is against American bases in the Middle East. These are quite reachable by Iran and their IRGC proxies, and they’ve done it before, but I think it would take some kind of serious derangement to think they’d get away with it at the moment.
Interesting ongoing Iranian military flight right now…
Both the green & orange aircraft are Iranian military and flying into Muscat, Oman.
Run away time???
Oman is a go between country for Iran and the West. They have close ties with both sides, a bit like Qatar with ISIS/Taliban
I’m finding Israeli reps being outraged about dead civilians and damaged hospitals to be a tad triggering.
Yeah, the comments this morning about the hospital bombing are a bit rich given who they’re coming from.
It’s almost like doing everything one can to uphold international humanitarian law and norms is in everyone’s interest…
The difference here being the Israelis aren’t using their hospitals to hold hostages, store weapons, or fire missiles.
I’m sure you’re in date for your LOAC training so you’ll know that if an enemy is using a protected place or symbol for military purposes then it is no longer protected. However just because you can doesn’t mean you should, I’m sure the UK wouldn’t but the Israelis have a rather different threat and risk appetite.
Well, if it’s good for the Goose…
For balance, I don’t think Iran was targeting the hospital. I don’t think they could target a hospital, even if they wanted to. They’re just lobbing ballistic missiles at cities.
We also don’t know if that missile was ‘intercepted’ on its way down …that could have had an effect!
The said missile has a CEP of 1 mile.
