So, looks like Trump might have pulled off a miracle 
Agreement to be signed at 10am UK time, but agreement to release Palestinian prisoners still needs to be signed off my the Knesset.
Within 24 hours, Israel to withdraw to first blue line.
Within 72 hours, Hamas to release all hostages in one go.
Trump arriving to Israel on Sunday.
Still much that could go wrong, but positive news.
I’ll believe it when I see it.
This is, hopefully, a good step forward.
I am slightly confused what role Trump or his team actually played here, other than announcing? It seems it’s been sorted amongst the Arab states?

while we might see “peace” next week…will it remain for a month, a year or two?
how “stable” will the region be?
He’s the one that can make Israel play ball, the US doesn’t press that button very often but ultimately Israel needs them.
I suspect it will last only as long as it’s convenient for Netanyahu or the US maintains the pressure. Which means I’m not optimistic.
The former is more than happy to reignite conflict if it helps his political career and the latter is dependent on Trump’s attention span, which is about 15 minutes.
or until he gets a Nobel Peace Prize!!

The quickest way for him to get one of those would be to step down and tell the US to calm down a bit.
The majority of hostile leaders that are succeeding at the moment are the ones don’t give two figs & cracking on regardless.

It’s a weird time to be living through.
“The End of History” was only just over 30 years ago, where only one geopolitical narrative was meant to dominate going forwards; that of neo-liberal cooperation, international partnerships and free trade. We’re now witnessing the regression away from that to something of an earlier time, more akin to mercantilist approaches, protectionism and might-makes-right.
I wonder how long it will be before the US decides that any ships using their ports needs to be flying the Star Spangled Banner?
I hope that any claimed success in bringing peace anywhere is countered with the context of deploying troops and what is now essentially a state-sponsored militia in ICE against his own citizens.
A peace prize for someone stoking internal unrest is a little distasteful to me.

It’s an odd point, I know, but I find it odd that ICRC are using the Red Cross designation on their transport through Gaza.
There’s no chance they’d use the Red Diamond designation given that this designation was essentially created for Israel, but I would have expected them to use the Red Crescent designation instead.
Unless the Red Cross is being used because it’s “neutral” to both Palestinian and Israeli territories?
