World War Three?

Sounding lot like WMD rhetoric of 25 years ago.

Netanyahu claimed Iran were months away in 2012, weeks away in 2015.

Are they perhaps not just distracting from what they’re doing in the other direction?

The IAEA inspectors were pulled out and given the theocracy Iran the consequences of not acting don’t bear thinking about.

Can’t even confirm it - the Domino’s Pizza tracker is down.

Looks like a late pizza night to me.

Not even suggesting the situation isn’t serious, because someone must have something.

Whether that something is right though or isn’t being stretched for other motives…

Despite the odds increasing over time that Iran gets there, there’s definitely a crying wolf undertone.

I don’t think Iran is overly capable of much of a fight, and so I don’t see this as a catalyst for wider involvement.

From a US standpoint, as well as any other intel, motives, or agreements, I expect someone has gotten the message through that if they don’t do something about something, there will be a lot more somethings that need something doing.

So if the US does tag team with Israel and destroy the alleged Iranian nuclear facilities, will they officially be at war or will it be a “special operation” as Putin would say?

I don’t think anyone has actually declared war for a long time, possibly because of the UN Charter or something.

For the record, my assessment is this isn’t going to escalate into a world war. That would require Iran having friends other than fallen regimes and defeated terrorists.

That’s the thing Russia doesn’t have the capability for an escalation, China aren’t going to war for Iran and the Arabs hate Iran more than Israel.

I believe there’s only been 5 declarations of war since WW2, the main reason being that being in an official state of war brings restrictions and obligations that “conflicts” don’t.

So Iran has said they will not surrender. They’ve also directly threatened America if they intervene at all. Isn’t this all getting exciting… :grimacing:

Iran’s leader says US military action ‘will be met with irreparable harm’

To mis-quote from “There’s a hole in my bucket” (youngsters, here you go - sorry about the ad! ):

“With what will you harm me, dear Lisa, dear Lisa, with what will you harm me, dear Lisa, with what?”

At the end of the day it will be down to money. China won’t want to cut off trade with NATO countries, which will inevitably happen should China and the US come to blows. They aren’t going to risk $trillions for Iran, who import less from China than Belgium does, when it gets them nothing in return.

So what does Iran actually have the ability to do? Certainly strong words, but I can’t imagine they are an actual threat to the US?

Realistically, they have to; anything else appears weak and Iran as a state relies on the appearance of strength, whether actual or imaginary.

But we’ve also seen how, whilst there is some level of response to Israel, it’s not the most effective. The likelihood of Iran therefore being able to target American infrastructure outside of the Middle East is almost none.

My understanding is that the threat is against American bases in the Middle East. These are quite reachable by Iran and their IRGC proxies, and they’ve done it before, but I think it would take some kind of serious derangement to think they’d get away with it at the moment.

Interesting ongoing Iranian military flight right now…

Both the green & orange aircraft are Iranian military and flying into Muscat, Oman.

Run away time??? :open_mouth:

Oman is a go between country for Iran and the West. They have close ties with both sides, a bit like Qatar with ISIS/Taliban
