In the old days it was more practical to have a set on each uniform - It meant less faffing about unfastening the ATC pins to swap slides (except for those uncouth people who never bothered to pin their ATC pins through the shoulder strap )
Having only had two pairs since the introduction of the current slides I decided to grab a couple of extra pairs of the new ones for myself. Iâm sick of throwing a jersey on and then remembering that I havenât swapped the damned slides.
IMO those yellow ones are far too bright! The duller, gold ones look much better!
I donât think the yellow ones look quite as bad in person as they do in that photo. But I do think the gold ones looks better.
God knows where they were purchased from though⌠Iâve never seen them.

The yellow is really more heraldically correct as well.
Is it though? Iâd imagine that itâs defined as the tincture âOrâ.
Anyhow⌠Compared to the RAF issued WO slides:
Our yellow are really much more âyellowâ than the gold of the regular.
Yes, but Or is usually just done as yellow. Itâs not incorrect to use actual metallic gold, but itâs fairly unusual.

Theyâre rank slides not a Monet or a Van Gogh. A rank slide is a rank slide is a rank slide so why the debate over âcolourâ, âyellow -v- goldâ, âtinctureâ, âI-like-that-one-better-than-that-oneâ and so on?
However, I agree. Why does one individual need so many pairs? And thatâs only the pairs we CAN see - how many more does he have?
Or is it just me?

Personally, I just think that the RAFâs gold looks nicer than our, somewhat garish, yellow.
