What the hell is this?

Taken from another site. WO with wings, funny goatee beard and no medals. Not showing any RAFAC indicators.

[Picture removed].

Right hand looks funny - you sure this isn’t AI?

Got to be a walter

Very old WO badges,

No medals as a WO…

And flying badges, that arent glider…

On their own, the wings could be explained by RPAS these days; however, combined with the rank badges and absence of medal ribbons, I think you’re bang on the money.

I’m also fairly sure that’s not a Windsor knot…

No one would be able to get to WO without atleast the platty jubes, coronation medal and arguably the golden too.

Id expect to see the long service and Good conduct medal too as they realistically wouldnt pass their board without.

Also, belts upside down

If they were an ex regular or reservist FS & joined RAFAC in covid as direct entry SNCO it’s conceivable they would get to WO with no medals.

However means they were a regular FS & left before 2002 so no golden jubilee.

Is it possible that they’re just not wearing their medals…

No ribbons either, though

Locked. We don’t want to publicly shame people.

I’ve reopened this at the request of a contributor.

However, I’ll remind you all to follow our AUP and I’ll just delete posts that don’t and give temporary bans.

How did I miss that? SNCOs set the standard and there’s no way a WO would get that wrong.

Going back to the wings, would RPAS pilots have aircrew ranks?

I know several regular WOs without Golden jubes, from both army and RAF.

As far as I’m aware (& from a briefing at Waddo a couple of months ago by the WSOPs), I think that the RPAS pilots are all commissioned. In any event, any non-commissioned RPAS pilots would have the Master aircrew WO insignia.

Playing Devil’s Advocate (although this is unlikely, I feel), possible that the chap was originally NCO pilot with AAC and transferred to RAF?

In that case, they’d be wearing AAC wings, not RAF wings.

As the picture has been removed, I can’t be certain, but having read the above comments one word came to mind “Walt”

As soon as I saw the picture, that was the word that came to mind - very quickly!
