What the hell...Am I dreaming?
Well that was 5 mins of my life wated reading this thread
What life?

If the 2012 one’s on you tube I imagine it has been watched by more than the sqn and if anyone who might care has seen it or been made aware, it appears that nothing has been said. In light of this and knowing what pedants WWO can be, it can’t be regarded as being that important.

The Video has stopped working but judging from the comments and being a Bandmaster myself i can honestly say if hes a CI with the band and in uniform he should be playing an instrument. The Regs cover CFAVs playing IN the band and uniformed staff acting as DoM/ Bandmaster. No 1 involved with a band would march behind it with a pace stick, not even a Band WO.
pace stick,
That one got corrected: it is a pair of drumsticks (not the delicious, chicken variety either)

Ah cheers, having now read the whole thread and not getting bored after the first page I can see people get really worked up about this video.

From a cheeky hit point of view if the drummers were any good they wouldn’t drop their sticks.

From a BM point of view if he’s not playing an instrument he’s not wearing uniform and should be happy to wear a suit.
Also available on YouTube is the 2012 Knowle remembrance parade where you can see the same CI in uniform, without any drumsticks (perhaps nobody had dropped any that year) marching casually behind the band. That video is in HD

Right enough though - posting here is unlikely to help. Bringing the concerns to the attention of WWO Warwickshire & Birmingham Wing would be a better option as 2030Sqn are his responsibility.
Having just checked You tube for more 2030 posts, im suprised to come across apost of an event at nesscliffe the music added to the presentation is certainly not suitable for use with anything to do with the corps image in fact imshocked to find that it has actualy been overlooked, one the first track usedis of a sexual nature and the second relates to the black community using the N word that is totaly unacceptable

I apologise to anyonewho may findthe attached offensive but it looks likesomeone needsa serious word in this areaof their wing.

This is when you need spare drumsticks!!

(On the right-hand side of the snare(?) drums)

& here…

I am by no means trying to defend the video in question but

who posted it?
I went in search and found to my disappointment the user’s name is 2030Sqn - not some random name which for me at least would point the finger at a video editing competent Cadet

looking further, this user has only posted two videos and both were 5 yrs ago…which to me returns my thoughts to a Cadet who did it as a “project” for the Sqn, has since left and no one took up the baton

there is nothing I know of which requires, unlike a Sqn webpage for example, to have it “registered” with HQAC for youtube, ie any “official” Sqn video poster isn’t required, I’m not even sure there is a requirement for Facebook pages either!

As such it is hard to regulate something that HQAC aren’t aware of…on the assumption that this is an “official” user of 2030sqn which based on the evidence doesn’t seem likely, or at least if it is, has not been used for some years.

As I say I am not defending the video, the comments above are valid, it doesn’t offer the correct image but IS there an policy for such videos?? ACP50 from memory only covers photos and what should/shouldn’t be included not videos and thus the backing tracks.

back to the topic in question, although I cannot find the original video on page one, there is a video of the 2012 parade and sure enough our enthusiastic CI is parading again…note that both arms swing and are free from carrying any items

I imagine the “music” used is done so as it is something that would appeal to many youngsters and nothing whatsoever thought about the Corps’ image. Having said that no ATC promo on an online source is watched by more than a (literally in some cases) handful of people, in terms of potential audience. I’ve seen any number of cadet promo video/slideshows and the music has killed it in terms of grabbing interest. If it hadn’t been for this post, it wouldn’t have lasted 5 seconds of my time, as I find that music style completely uninteresting. But as Steve says it’s 5 years old and as it’s on you tube they’ve probably forgotten it’s there.

As for the N word and sexual nature, within that particular music genre they are used quite freely and the N word is not regarded as an offensive (as far as I can tell) term. To this end it probably doesn’t even register with the age group of anticipated audience. It may have been used as a shock tactic for oldies, but very little shocks or offends someone who lived through the monotony of Punk and some of their tactics to gain notorioty.

I think that the censorship, if it is felt it is needed, should come from the squadron not ‘Tunbridge Wells’, unless of course they from Tunbridge Wells. I did this with something on my sqn about 8 years ago, which the couple who did it agreed to make the change, as I felt a couple of the piccies weren’t really appropriate, although contextual.

In terms of 2030 sqn things on YT the others are atypically bland.

I for one would and I know the CO/ Wg Cdr/ and RC certainly would not be happy with that sort of lyric attached to anything to do with our Sqn or Wing.

The N word is certainly deemed across the country as having racist conotations unless it is between two or more members of the Black ethnic minorities and there was realy no excuse for the first track either.

The internet can do such wonderful things for our cause but something like this can cause more harm than good when not kept an eye on.

everyone: just bang in a load of reports to YT about it. They’ll pick up something is an issue and remove it.

I am with tc69. There isn’t any real defense for bad or “street” language when associating with the ACO. It’s against most of our ethos. If we want to relate to street culture, sideways hats and “swag” lets start youth clubs.

There’s a billion music tracks out there more appropriate and if you think that use of the N word, offensive language and music that carries parental warnings will appeal to most of the 13 and 14 year old boys and girls in our target recruitment area then I despair.

Keep it clean, keep it in good taste and you won’t distance yourself from anyone.

On the about page for the 2030sqn account there is a link to an account called scopezaresmiling which is full of rubbish, with the latest being 4 years ago, it also has the Nesscliff video on it so it would definitely seem to only have been under a cadets control.
