I’m local and was due to be mantrailing with one of my spaniels on Sunday, it’s just been cancelled due to the weather forecast, we’re now under an amber weather warning for snow and ice.
This is maybe a silly question, as I know how bad comms is within this org, but has no one from the command and leadership school (or what ever it is called) reached out to course attendees? This snow looks like it’ll cause some pretty serious travel problems; Especially for a course with people all over the UK attending.
You’d think they might reach out and get people to aim to turn up Monday AM instead of Sunday PM.
Nope, nothing and it’s at least a 5 hour journey for me.
Is it bad your way? My parents still live there, but they never tell me if things are properly bad.
Everywhere was frozen solid when I let the dogs out for a wee before bed but it’s warmed up over night, roofs still have a white covering from frost but other than that, it’s all defrosted but we’ve got heavy snow forecasted over night and into tomorrow so we’ll see what tomorrow morning brings. If the forecast is right, I’ll have two very happy spaniels in the morning, they both love the snow!
Looking at the updated weather report, it’s going to be bad but should clear up so it might be ok. Just have to see what happens and whether we get any comms from the command and leadership team. At the moment I don’t fancy driving up there but we’ll see.
Do what is right, not what is easy.
If you don’t think it’s safe to make the journey, do not make the journey, email Lisa and rebook onto tye next available course.
The band that’s coming though is going to drop significant amounts of snow tonight and into Sunday morning. The thing that’s making it really hard to predict depths is that for a lot of people, that heavy snow will turn to warm heavy rain, so will only be a temporary problem.
It looks like Manchester will be the approx line of where it never warms up enough to chance, so north of they’re them still have significant snow well into Monday!
For me in the south east of looks it’ll snow for an hour at about 1800 then immediately warm up to about 12C and turn to rain for 12 hours
If you can travel today I’d take that as an option over travelling tomorrow. The weather isn’t due in until tonight.
100%. Either today or Monday. Just not Sunday!
This.
Lisa will get it and will sort it for you
Cheers all for the advice. I think I’ll see what tomorrow brings and reassess. Worst case scenario I’ll just reschedule. If they’re happy for us to go up Monday and miss most of the first day, that would work to.
Noticing Bristol Airport seems to be struggling a lot right now - many go-arounds and diversions.
I take it the snow is arriving?
Have they shut the runway, as the Belfast Bristol one now appears to just be heading home!
Not so bad at the moment with 300 ft cloudbase & light snow - depends what they put on the runway to pre-treat for snow. Going to deteriorate according to their TAF.
Woke the kids up, so they can play in the snow, as its already starting to rain here…
Just very heavy rain for me! We didn’t even get any snow on the front edge of it. Straight to rain.
Given how heavy it is, It’s no surprise some areas are expected to get 40cm+ of snow!
Kids spent the last 90mins out in it - building snowmen, snow angels and made a really good snow wall and lean-to shelter.
They are now defrosting Infront of the fire and drinking hot chocolate!!!
Yeah. Nothing better after playing in the snow, than having a hot chocolate, marshmellows and cream.
