But they are valid for 18+, so clearly exceeds that for them (CFAVs) so event cant go ahead without staff so not really a problem for under 18s. The RAFAC is not just about Cadet involvment.
Oh, the number of times I’ve been shouted down when calling people out for showing a lack of observation of a duty of care to CFAVs but observing that duty of care with cadets! Mainly around duty time without a break/length of duty day… Though I have called people out for hot and cold too.
waaay back when, in the days when there were no “self-checkouts” I used to IC our Christmas bag packs. I would select the Cadet IC (typically a FS per day) and brief them on my expectations and tell them “this is your event, i am here just as Staff support”
I would purposely not go on break waiting for them to instruct me when i could go for lunch…they all learnt a lesson from that to check on the Staff as well as Cadets when given the IC role.
How are we all holding up?
It’s currently 30 degrees here, no breeze, it’s a tad warm
Oh yeah I’m grand; roughly 18°c with a gentle southerly breeze. Ta for asking.
Finished work early. Now laying on my bed with a fan pointed directly at me. I think I’ll nap through the hottest part of the day!
Enjoying the chill of a wonderful 21deg lab, and eager to get out soon to head over to the local brewery!
Surviving well - dogs were out at 0800, so reasonably cool (also had a perambulation at 2215 last night when I got back from cadets).
It’s about 30C in the Cambridge area - Mrs J is off to Faro (very briefly) where it’s only 24C!!
Currently sitting in living area of Jenvey Towers, watching Wimbledon, with air conditioning doing an excellent job!
If you has asked this question in Jun 1976, it would hve been a VERY different answer! Officially, it was a drought.
I was at RAF Finningley, going through trg as an AEOp - the last week or so of Jun & then into Jul, was about 3 weeks of temperatures at / above 30C. Southampton hit a peak of 35.6C!!
No such things as climatic injuries trg then - but PT was more or less curtailed for the period (yippee!) - & we did as many teaching activities as possible outside the classroom. I think the calibre of the instructors helped - can’t imagine much teaching today without death by Powerpoint. It was blackboards & chalk + morse code keys that were self-contained with a battery pack!
At that time, working nights as a student nurse, sleeping during the day, not a problem.
Can confirm todays been hotter than the devils armpit
As we use to say in the old days Scorchio!
Had a pretty perfect day in the heat. Went to a local brewery for a tour, which included a great beer flight with guided tasting at the end. Then come home and had a big BBQ with some family members!
I don’t know how the South East hasn’t declared a drought yet. We have some hosepipe bans coming in. But this lack of rain is getting silly!
The graph shows that on average, we should have accumulated over 300mm of rain from Jan 1st to now. Yet we’ve actually only had about 30/40mm. Basically the only rain we’ve had has been really heavy short bursts. But we’ve only had a couple of those.
Watch this drought break just as I’m due back in LHR and I end up being diverted to Frankfurt or somewhere else just as silly due to thunderstorms…
It’s already broke here, waiting for a call to go and pick up Mr Emz’s van from service at the garage, the plan was / is to cycle there, just now depends on how wet I’ll be when I get to the other end, there was not a hint of rain forecasted when I booked it in and said no, I won’t need a courtesy vehicle, I’ll cycle
Just checked the parents’ cameras, looks like it broke around 11am? Does look a tad damp.
Nothing down here
Hopefully going well for you and the teams?
So another amber weather warning, but nothing heard from Region to check all activities!!
Bet LASER continue with all activities, despite risk to life from flooding
