Much smarter than jumper and far smarter than Jeltex.
Agreed.
Worn correctly, with a shirt, they can look smart.
But they’re usually worn with short sleeve shirts by people avoiding wearing ties, and look rubbish.
It’s not the 18th century, ties need to just die
If I put 2C on the program and the NCO’s turn up in 2A as they want to, then that’s on them. I’m wearing open neck.
If I put 2A on the program, all the staff are expected in 2A as well.
the same way we get everything else we’re not scaled for (no3) - the RAF were throwing it out/threw it in with out blues order.
does that make it right? debateable but rather than see good uniform go to waste it was issued to Cadets and the “fairest” way would be for NCOs.
then that ^^ happened.
edit to add - i am talking about a time 20 odd years ago, before ATC emails, before SharePoint and before any real EWOW - units were much more independent and able to do “their own thing” without question as photos were not shared on a monthly basis of what the unit was up to, or had the potential of 30 Cadets hitting a well known FB group asking questions…
I know it’s not aimed at me, but I don’t have a problem wearing a tie. I just have a problem with all the long-sleeve shirts fitting like a tent around the middle and having gorilla arms!
In fact - I wear a short sleeve shirt with a tie and no1s. Nobody knows the difference
It’s a regular thing on my unit, one of the Sgts, cold, because our building is the coldest place on earth in winter, refuses to wear a jumper, because he’d have to wear a tie, so he wears his jacked inside all night.
Honestly, the idea of requiring ties in jumpers, to ‘smarten’ up the Airforce in cold weather, backfired massively, because half now are in 2A, and the rest 2B with GPJ
If it is cold on your unit then it doesn’t get much warmer than a tie and one of those jumpers - goodness me you roast in them!
I’m not the only one then, as in the winter I had to take mine off as I got so hot
Likewise, I always expected the staff to be at least as formally dressed as the cadets.
But if I had 2C on the programme and the NCOs turned up in 2A I’d question why they’ve ignored my orders… I’ve probably got a very good reason for ordering 2C, as I have for most decisions I make; even if that reason were as simple as “I expect my NCOs to demonstrate that 2C can be worn smartly as well by showing the example.”
Although it’s a bit hypothetical. Because of the way I trained my NCOs none of them would consider wearing 2A instead.
I agree, there could be any manner of reasons… but the oc loves a tie so is happy with the situation.
I do wonder if this harks back to the Army’s Orderly Officer who would be turned out in their smartest order of dress, in some regiments even Blues, whilst doing their stint.
I don’t like the idea otherwise, uniform = uniformity and all
Although that alone is a very Cadet attitude, walk onto an RAF Station and try to find people all dressed the same.
Even though it would appear that RAF bases arnt very uniform in terms of uniform. If you think about it, all the people who are together doing the same job are all uniform with each other, like all cadets are doing the same, “job” so are uniform with each other.
So looking at a RAF station as a whole is a bad idea because people arnt doing the same job, so are only uniform with their colleges if you get what I mean.
But you have a point nether the less.
Not really though, you walk into an office and you will find people in jumpers, people in GPJ’s, people in long sleeve shirts and people in short sleeve shirts, it’s wear what your comfortable in today
Ah, well In that case I admit my mistake.
Also it seems that the RAF don’t really follow the uniform regs in terms of jumper “season” and see them as mear guidelines most the time unless doing something Ceremonial.
So it seems the cadets are a bit over zealous with following the regs.
^ corrected that for you.
No such thing as Jumper season and hasn’t been for about 20 years. If it’s August and your cold out a jumper on, if it’s January and your warm wear a shirt.
Well, even though you’re right, according to everyone on my sqn jumper season starts October and ends the 1st may. And if it’s cold in summer of warm in jumper season then tough bassicly.
