Want to see the result of our ammo restrictions?

They didn’t even use the things!

Shouldn’t that be the cause?

No, the cause was the theft. The result is their imprisonment…

Phew.

So this would be the result of the cause of our ammo restrictions.

The really daft thing is the restrictions are still in place.

If it was just the bar mines (Rule 1 - dont stop an ammo train in a built-up area!), then I could understand that the current restrictions are excessive & not appropriate.

However, there are some rumours around that suggest that items used to murder the 2 policewoman by Cregan may have had UK military links; if this is the case, then perhaps we might have to wait some more… Incidentally, that was a year ago today. :frowning:

The train was stopped because of a suicide further up the line, not of it’s own accord.

Sorry, must resist from black humour…

On the basis that freight trains would probably get lesser priority at busy junctions, maybe there have been other opportunist thefts??

Wonder how the NEQ of bar mines equates to the meagre allowance that we can carry?

I know we can’t discuss it here, but perhaps a request from on high for a dispensation up to a certain quantity might be useful? Just think how much a private FAC holder can transport…?

Anyway, in all seriousness, it’s the ammunition that is a weak link for the baddies out there, so much so that one or 2 enterprising criminals started hand-loading their own! The Violent Crime Reductions Act makes it illegal to sell primers for metal cartridges without the purchaser showing a FAC:

http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2006/38/section/35

The Police won’t advertise it but there have been shootings where deaths have been avoided by the degraded quality of the ammunition - more a phutt than a bang!

Don’t listen to rumours

More substance than a rumour…

Read towards the bottom part of this story as to how many weapons can go missing. Ammo or ordnance not quoted…

I think anyone who thinks ammunition isn’t being stolen or ‘misappropriated’ on a regular basis is naïve.

I recently saw a post on a forum for modellers where some chap in Ireland who was with the RDF had taken a couple of photos of his latest finished kit in his bedroom with a couple of blank 5.56 and a live 7.62 for scale.

You’d think our friends in the emerald isle would be even more jumpy than us… :S

Missing Weapons is nothing new to the forces… There was aa story a few years back about a Female officer coming back off an excercise ,who during a Pit stop at a rather large out of town supermarket took a call of nature and removed her pistol and belt so as to do what comes naturaly, these where place on top of the cistern and when she had finished, by Hopefully washing her hands she left the little room leaving said pistol on the Cistern.

Another incident with a Nameless large unit involved a SNCO leaving a Weapon in the HQ tent and popping off for a quiet brew and a watch of the football in the REMEs 432, on his return to the HQ position he was aghast to find they had upped and moved location…Rifle what Rifle…

Not so slack when I was Duty Guard Commander though, I was short 1 round at the Duty Officers 100% weapons check and Holy Hell check was let loose and my backside was thoroughly chewed…round later found at the bottom of gate sentries ammo pouch… needless to say he had a very loooooong stag for rest of the nightshift

Overt carry of a side arm, by an officer, in the UK? Really?

Are you sure you aren’t confusing this with the MET DPG Female Officer who left a Glock in the loo in 2008?

I was thinking that too. Wasn’t the pistol left in Tesco?

Well, this was this incident at Starbucks:

Happens elsewhere too:

There was an ex-Army guy who had a “few” items in his car at Tesco car park, when he tried to escape from court:

Well, there you go. Strange though, is the carrying of a sidearm the norm on UK exercises?
