I don't care if I am in VR(T) or RAFAC and neither do the cadets or the RAF I expect.
I will, however, have a sniff at leaving the VR(T) for the things called principals and tradition. I was commissioned into the Volunteer Reserve of the RAF 35 years ago, my scroll was signed by the Queen personally not stamped. I felt that I was following on in the same beliefs as those who started it all 75 years ago.
No it wont make a difference to what I deliver and do, the cadets wont know the difference, the RAF and forces will be as nice or as nasty just the same, the public will see the same blue suit as they did for the ROC or dark blue for the Civil Defence. What has gone is that little sense of tradition to make the blue peg fit down with the khaki going up a peg and I doubt if the SCC care either, they still stay senior to us all.
What I do object to is ACF wearing Regular badges, but at least the ATC badge is unique, traditional and special. Only Air Cadets get to wear it and I havent had that privilege.
