Volunteer Software Development Team - New Cadet Portal

No, as in the region table compared to the individually listed units in the wing.

Itll be Sqns with a head count of zero causing a niggle as they originally skewed the data quite heavily so the report was built to filter them out… apparently it appears it hasnt out of one of the tables. It will literally be the Sqn count that is out though.

Will have a look when I get 5 mins.

Ahhhhhhh pivoting with ease.

(Pivot table joke)

Na mate. Its excellent work.
Out of that data, a couple are bound to slip through.

Cheers…

I think it gives the right information to give the wg cos the right answers to help embed CP.

Would be certainley interesting to re run the data in another 12 weeks or so once the conversations have taken place.

Nice to see numbers of who is and isn’t using portal etc…but…

My Sqn is showing as 5 cadets short and that 21 aren’t using portal when I know 15 aren’t. 9 events posted to portal when we are a very busy sqn and I have posted at least 7 myself
When are these numbers calculated from? #JustWondering

It must have been from a while back as shows on 30% of my cadets accessing - a quick look on SMS shows we’re actually on about 90%

Activities wise it says total 16, where as there have been way more than that.

Look forward to the next report where we should be nearer the top!

Congrats on 1111

One of those two units from D&S has shut.

The other one not publishing events is also ironically in the top three for cadet uptake. I know that they have actively been working with cadets to sign in and train them but they’ve obviously misunderstood how events are advertised.

You lot are quick to judge when you do not have local context. Get back in your respective boxes!

Sorry Mike, I was being tongue-in-cheek. There are also some beatings due elsewhere in the country, just that SWR’s were the figures I looked at.

I don’t know if anyone else is having this issue, but since we moved over to cadet portal we have had a significant drop in cadets signing up to events. I think the system is so great and easy to use but it relies on cadets signing up themselves. Most of our cadets now just wont do it and now are using the cadet portal as a way to avoid doing activities like sports.
It’s also created a disconnect for parents now. They don’t know what events are going on or if their cadets have signed up or not. I think there should be some sort of parent side to the portal, even if it’s just a calendar that is generated that then shows what events are on for that sqn and if their cadet has signed up, otherwise parents don’t know until last minute and that can cause last minute drop outs.
Do you think this is something i should suggest to the VSDT? As it’s something parents are now raising with me at a sqn level. It’s just a shame not all cadets can take ownership of this and it affects the sqn.

Sorry if this has been mentioned before btw…

We are continuing with the closed Facebook group for parents (and for Cadets)
Also if a cadet signed up on Portal for an event where there is no transport I ask for parental confirmation on email that they can get the Cadet there. I’ve been bitten by that one before.
I am considering a notice board with the QR codes, we can’t use a digital display as our accommodation is shared.

We still have the closed facebook group for parents and we have a notice board with QR codes printed, we even offer cadets time on parade nights to do the admin and sign up using our pc’s or laptops but still a lack of signing up. And not all of our parents are on this facebook group but we do try and get them all on as much as we can. I just thought if they could see what their cadets have been offered as opposed to what they are actually signing up to, it might increase numbers more by parents ‘encouraging’ them. :’)

Much, much better parental visibility, & also assists greatly for car sharing, etc.

We’re having the same and it has been mentioned here, with the inevitable replies of “it’s their own fault” (essentially).

Parents aren’t allowed access as it’s an MoD site - is the official reply, but it does feel like the staff and parents haven’t really been taken into account in step 1 of this, only being brought in as an after thought (I’m sorry if that offends anyone, but that’s how it comes across).

We’ve started creating large round up emails of all the activity coming up in the next X months to send out. And we still publish our monthly programmes on our website.

@GrandMaster_Flush we do exactly the same - a monthly round up of who has achieved what and what is coming up.

It starts with a small paragraph of news, updating on what is going on at the squadron.

It moves on to news; where we say who’s been flying/PTS badge achievements etc so parents and cadets can see others achieving

Then it moves on to activities; where we give a list of activities coming up, with a note on if you bid through portal or at squadron officer (e.g. flying and camps don’t appear on portal).

Then there is an actionable items list - so if we require anything from parents then we put it here.

We then attach a uniform plan, with a note saying it is downloadable for cadets from the portal.

It’s still early doors for us as we have taken time to adopt the system fully, but so far we are seeing a good take up of activities on portal. So hoping it doesn’t kill everything off.

I think it is helpful for parents to see a list of stuff coming up - that way when little Johnny tells them there is nothing going on they can see he isn’ quite giving the full picture!
