What I find interesting out of all this, is the surprise over the result.
The bookies have had him as the odds on favorite for the last 6 weeks or more. His odds averaged 4/6, against Harris at 6/4, with the Trump odds shortening the closer we got to the vote. The bookies very rarely get a 2 horse race wrong!
People, (over here certainly), were lulled into a false hope by the main stream media trotting out the, “It’s neck and neck” and “It’s too close to call” narrative.
Bookies odds are dictated by who’s betting on what, and often don’t reflect actual probabilities of an outcome though.
It’s not surprise; it’s a sense of disappointment and betrayal by the American people to their “allies”

Also do US voters understate (to pollsters) voting Republican as Tory voters do here? Not the MAGA crowd but the waverers.
I’m hearing a lot of the blame being aimed at Biden rather Kamala.
If she had a longer campaigning & could separate herself out a bit she might have faired a bit better.

That’s my thought. The “Brexit/Trump Effect”. If you demonise one particular party/choice then people will go into the closet with it and then you have a shock on election day.
Imagine most people wouldn’t be embarrassed to say they voted for Kamala but a lot may be if they voted for Trump.
I’ve seen a lot of comments on Facebook by Democrat voters saying “if you voted for Trump you are racist”.

it is likely irrelevant, but interesting to note that of the three occasions Trump has run for Presidential term 2016, 2020, and 2024, he only won when he was competing against female candidates…
I am not sure if that is a stat which is significant…would Harris have won in 2020 if it were her rather than Biden running given the shift change the USA wanted from their leader (ie Trump out) hard to say but interesting to me all the same

nothing in the recent post contradicts his earlier one. his views can have not be reversed and no reason to suggest that Lammy doesn’t still see Trump as a “racist KKK and Nazi sympathiser”
I can imagine that today’s result will accelerate European moves towards a more integrated defence structure, potentially even a European military. Something more efficient, effective and coordinated than we have now to support continental defence.
I suppose that’s a small silver lining?
Perhaps it’s time for Europe to step up and become a pole in a multipolar world?
