Updated Risk Assessment

It probably depended on what type of application and who was authorising it. We deffo had AT bounced for it at Region and we used to get PIPES blocked at Wing all the time.

I had the opposite recently and was told to resubmit a day event with separate admin instruction, RA etc rather than in a single document.
Different Region/Wing, different rules :man_shrugging:

Yeah, it must be. I never created any AT events. It was all camps, course, general events…

And as per the recently revised CTR, RCOs now need to do / have done RA trg. Hmm, risk = guns / bullets / danger. Mitigation = safe shooting trg, etc, for RCOs / cadets - oh, & a first aid kit if it goes wrong. Next? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Oh, air rifles are now officially designated in CTR as “Service Wpns.” That’s the kiss of death to try & get AR shooting de-linked from the wildly over-reaching requirements that exist.

The RA will be an activity RA and capture risks that aren’t covered by the SST, the SST itself will be a 1 liner within the RA most likely.

The Air Rifle bit is a little more complex… the ACF have gone the route of a limited time 2* dispensation to run AR under NGB rules from what I’ve heard. Not sure how far through the process they are.

Well, even something like that would make a huge difference.

Yes this,

That said we would likely still need to run our own training. On my AR NGB there was a lot of time spent on the different - types - of AR, emphasising that the types we use need more care and attention, if not actually less safe.

I’m just viewing the 5010c training, and (ignoring other gripes) I’ve found an example entry for carrying a spill kit in case of RTC (noted as RTA).

I’d be more concerned about the risk of using it in an area with traffic and shrapnel and mitigating that with letting the relevant authorities deal with it - especially if there are cadets and their wellness and welfare to manage. If a smash is bad enough for a spill, it’s bad enough to be making that phone call.

It’s not actually a requirement is it? I went to the example travel RA and it’s pre-environmental controls version (how old?!). Had a chuckle at “Nominal roll must be acquired and checked as accurate at the start point.” being given as a hazard, though.

Why haven’t the provided RAs available in Key Docs been updated to coincide with the release of the new form? If they’re there to help and guide, they should be in a useful and correct format!

We all keep asking ‘why’

We all know why.

Utter shambolic leadership and management from the top of available resource against their expected outcomes.

I think some questions were asked on the VoV section about the RAs recently, be interesting to see if that covers yours too.

Errrr, sure the old ones are still there, but a handful have been produced.

That’s where I looked.

New style Air Rifle Generic Risk Assessment, first hazard “Death or Serious injury due to live ammunition being used”

Are we really considering pellets as live ammunition?

What does a drill pellet look like?

Do we need to count pellets when we do an ammunition check?

Like a normal one but pink and fluffy.

We used to hold air rifles years ago. That is exactly why I held the pellets at home. I had been told that yes - we had to count each pellet.
From that moment on they were no longer kept on the Sqn.

If you eat a whole tin of them, maybe yes

Damn, I thought I was joking but that is insane.
