UK Digital ID discussion

You’ve missed out the

Topic?

*The way Baldrick wishes you’d do it

It’s now law that all Company Directors have to verify their ID digitally at Companies House by using Passport, Driving Licence & National Insurance number. Fines if you dont register your digital ID and your ID number has to go on the Companies Annual Return for all directors.

I have just applied to become a Civilian Instructor and had to do the same via the Post Office Digital ID check App for uCheck who do the DBS checks.

They are gradually getting to everyone - it’s all about Government Control!

You need ID to vote now unless you have a postal vote set up.

Hopefully they will use it to deny benefits, hospital treatment etc to save us all money!

At this point in my life, I don’t care what the government wants to fiddle with. If they are seriously interested in my digital life, it’s shared depression and I hope they feel as Victor Meldrew as I do.

Is it not a good idea to check that people running companies are who they say they are?

I’m in a regulated profession anyway that means people can check on the government website that I am who I say I am and what I’m qualified to do. Protection for consumers isn’t a bad thing and this is just a step further

I was just stating a fact about directors. I didn’t say it was a bad thing for them.

Then why did you include the hyperbolic conspiratorial reference to “government control!”?

Because it’s becoming a requirement for everyone and I’m not convinced about that yet.

Too many not IT literate, capable or have the tech.

Could be open to abuse or data loss etc.

Having just spent a chunk of time looking at proposed secondary legislation, I’m convinced governments control what they can rather than what they should!

You’ve just said your self you’ve been through the uCheck service for your DBS. So now the Post Office system and uCheck all have your data, plus the MOD.

If you have a driving licence, or a passport, then the Government already have your data that way too.

All this digital ID is for is an easier way to prove someone’s identity. As an example, if we had a Gov digital ID, the DBS check process could be significantly easier.

This idea that the Government is suddenly going to have loads of data on people is wrong. They’ll have nothing more than they already do. It’s just us as ‘consumers’ will have a new thing we can use to prove who we are.

And the idea they might lose all this data is not unrealistic, but it’s no different to them losing the passport, driving licence, HMRC etc data that they already have. So it’s not really a worry.

you forget if your are registered to vote, or are employed pay taxes too, not to mention council tax on residence, even if not working there will benefit payments which require data to be held

the suggestion the Govt doesn’t already have personal data is laughable

Don’t forget as an organisation the RAFAC have already moved to a digital ID system it called My RAFAC.

How long before your passport goes fully digital? There is a lot of 21 century technology wrapped up in a 19 centaury book.

Where are people buying their tin foil hats these days?

It’s probably still a fair few years away, given how things have gone with the EES! But once the

But once EES and ETIAS is fully implemented they’ll stop stamping passports as it’s all be digital. So it wouldn’t be too far off then. At least within Europe.

Careful, or they’ll make you have to show ID to buy tin foil!!

Don’t you know, it’s all about government control… :joy:

See, that’s the problem. You can’t buy TIN foil anymore. It’s all aluminium foil, and aluminium DOESN’T BLOCK THE SIGNALS!

Maybe with all the CCTV nowadays they want ID’s linked to photos so that crime can be fought more cleverly with facial recognition. Trouble is it does not work with Burkas and Balaclavas for example.

Next they will be wanting everyone’s DNA.

It’s like firearms laws - you can ban to your hearts content but then only the outlaws will have guns as they don’t have a care in the world about the law.
