Um, do you you always carry your passport/driving license? No? Nor do they.
ICE are lifting people and detaining because they aren’t carrying any form of ID, not that there is a national ID card or requirement to carry such thing.

Generally, I carry my driving licence and MOD90. If I was asked for ID whilst out on a run, I reckon I’d have enough on my phone to prove who I am.

I’m not getting into identitarian labels, but I look, dress, and sound very British.

That’s where we ended up going because of the nature of the questions being put to me, but it wasn’t my point. People who are where they belong don’t tend to worry about Immigration Officers.

The return point being made here though is that people who are where they are meant to be are being lifted by ICE anyway. Just because they are not white.

Ironically you’re sounding the least British out of anyone at the moment.
Britain has been built on a foundation of kindness, tolerance and acceptance. None of what you’re speaking about be it intimidating people with flags, feeling safe from being snatched of the streets because you’re not brown or black or supporting Trump makes you very British. Those are the things that we stood up to in our recent history, and it seems likely will have to stand up to again.

Certain flags are indeed intimidating: the flags of the Third Reich, Soviet Union / Russia, Red China, North Korea, etc. I wouldn’t visit the countries where they are/were flown. On the other hand, I visit allied/neutral countries and see their flags eveywhere — and I am not intimidated,
You really are dense.
For DECADES the national flags, particularly the St George’s Cross have been used by far right organisations as their symbol. They carry it as the indication that their actions are the actions of true patriots, actions that attack people they consider to be undeserving of being in their country. If you don’t appreciate that, you really need to wake up and see reality.
The whole point of “raising” flags on council street fixtures was for them to be taken down. The organisers knew that leaving them there would require the local authorities to eventually remove them, because they put extra wind strain on lamp posts, obscure traffic vision, could cause damage in their erection.
This was a provocation to those councils, to either do their jobs properly, or leave these flags up, so that the same people who started this mess could claim the local authorities are ‘anti-british’ when they did what they have to do.
Why can’t these patriots buy proper flagpoles? Not cheap printed plastic flags from China attached to lampposts by cable ties?

It’s not about the flag by itself l, it’s about its use, who by and where.
As has been said before the current trend is the Wetherspoon drinkers version of peeing up a lamppost to mark their territory.

Quite. A flag by itself is a piece of coloured cloth. The issue isn’t the shape or pattern or colour and never has been.
It’s the people placing them, the reason they’re placing them and the locations they’re placing them.

Furthermore, having “pride in your flag” isn’t scrawling a ratty red squiggle on a roundabout with the hand-eye coordination of a junkie in withdrawal.
If you were trying to show pride in your flag and your country, you’d take the effort to paint it properly. It’s about dominance, oppression, and creating a hostile environment as rapidly and broadly as possible.

Totally agree with the last two points.
Personally, I’ve never liked the ‘England’ flag and have always associated it with football hooligans when flown anywhere but from a church. However, in the context of being flown from lampposts, I am not intimidated as this is England.
Luckily, all the Jacks in my part of town are the right way up. I do consider it an indication of class when I drive through other areas where ~50% are upside down.
But again, you’re not the intended target of the intimidation, because YOU’RE WHITE.
You’re the intended target of the anger, they want you to be angry when they’re taken down, they want you to be angry when the roundabouts are painted over, because you don’t see the issue with them being up.
I don’t even like the look of them. A load of cheap plastic flags held up with cable ties, flying at half mast from a lamp post? It’s cheap and disrespectful.
