Folks, if you are running a social media account for a government department, you might want to double check the graphics before you post them. Unless, that is, you are just trying to tell us something…
Another cracker from the DoD. Using AI to make the crowds look huge. For context, here’s an actual shot:
Was anyone else surprised by how bad the quality of drill and uniform was at this parade? This is the US Army pulling out all the stops and wouldn’t even come up to the level of a middling year Remembrance Parade here, let alone something like Trooping the Colour. Do the US Army not issue a dress uniform anymore?
The US don’t really do drill outside of basic training and funerals. Lots of talk online about the army not liking the idea and being apathetic, I think that showed in the standards shown.
I’ve seen a few videos and photos now, and it really does look embarrassing. But with that said, I think there are two key points.
Firstly, most of these guys are non-ceremonial. They graft all day and basically do 0 drill ever. They then had to put this together at very short notice, so not exactly loads of time to train for it, especially as the cogs needed to keep turning too.
Secondly, I wonder if there is a strong element of malicious compliance. “You need to do a parade”. And they have done the bare minimum they can get away with. You can order them to do a parade, you can’t make them be happy about it though.
I don’t think we’ll be issuing dress uniforms to junior ranks anymore — they’ll soon be issued it only for when they need it.
having skimmed the above it looks so forced and awkward.
The tanks squeaking past was cringe too…they need a military band playing at the Grandstand to add to the atmosphere, rather than just some heavy, creaky hardware squeaking as it drives by
they troops are just walking along the road, no swinging of arms, fine if they are going for a “casual” approach, but the not being in step just made it looks like a huddle of troops walking from A to B.
certainly a lack of pride, patriotism and pomp that it could have been, but given the reasons offered above perhaps not surprising.
3 hours? I’d say “can I skip to the good bits” - but from what I’ve seen the highlights are low lights, and the good bit happens around 3hours 3mins and 5 seconds when it ends!
US troops don’t swing their arms when marching.
The Police don’t issue Tunics anymore, not worn enough to justify issuing to everyone.
so it is just a bimble??
Don’t they need it for the passing out / graduation parades?
They do need it for passing out.
I certainly hope they aren’t considering using a pool of off the shelf uniforms for passing out / graduations. Non-tailored uniforms would be pretty obvious.
Policing generally will have off the shelf but still has service tailors, so you go to the tailors, they fit you and adjust it, then when you are done it goes back.
No reason the military can’t do that, it works for weddings!
This is happening already
Yes.
Also yes.
Trump?
Trump - a man who wears awful fitting suits and I suspect if he has a tailor, that tailor is blind (boom, segue back to topic!)
