And hand the White House to Vance? Think they’d rather stick it out with Trump
On a similar vain…
Once is an accident
Twice is pure inability to do the job
Once should be removal from post.
Twice should be blacklisted for life from any gov job.
Certainly have to wonder how he still has security clearance.
I didn’t think that kind of thing was necessary as long as you sucked a trumpy toe hard enough.
Due to our ministers being elected, they aren’t subject to vetting. I’m not sure how it works in the USA, but I suspect that the only ‘vetting’ is the confirmation of appointments by Congress.
I knew someone who was a junior minister in the last government.
They are vetted but where with everyone else they don’t get the job, ministers with vetting black marks aren’t given the sensitive info & reports sent to them are restricted/redacted so they only have what they need (although pm can over ride it)
I think the American system is similar
So you knew a member of the wider Tory party ? Pretty sure everyone got a go at being a minister after they scraped away the bottom of the barrel during BoJo’s tenure. Certainly felt that way at times when working for them.
On a similar note I’m wondering if Wes Streeting still has the same mobile number he had when NUS President. It’s sometimes tempting to go back to the good old days of telling him to get his act together and sort out his organisation.
whatsapp might tell you
He binned several key members of his “defence”
senior advisors this week. Assuming he thought that they were the source of the leaks about Elon going to attend the super-secret briefing about China. Hegseth’s COS is leaving imminently too. They collectively have the keys to the cupboard with all the recent skeletons such as Signal chats, etc. Revenge might be sweet!
The ice underneath him is starting to crack. Moreover, if he has to go, it’s going to make the felon look (even more) stupid for proposing him.
I believe one of the more recent Education Secretaries was given the role as he couldn’t get a security clearence for MoD as he had previously leaked cabinet discussions.
I’m not defending Hegseth and I don’t have the facts: but just because something has been communicated on a classified system does not mean it carries the highest classification for that system. A lot of emails on higher class systems are just routine administration.
if you read the article though…
The material Kurilla sent included details about when U.S. fighters would take off and when they would hit their targets…using a system specifically designed to safely transmit sensitive and classified information…
…But then Hegseth used his personal phone to send some of the same information Kurilla had given him to at least two group text chats on the Signal messaging app, three U.S. officials with direct knowledge of the exchanges told NBC News.
And yet all they have said they’re focused on is finding out who keeps leaking this information to the press. Ignoring the fact they themselves are doing the leaking. But of course that’s not how they see it.
US of A has several (very expensive) dedicated secure comms options. They were not used. Information was shared on private devices, using an unauthorised app, to people who didn’t need to know (let alone the blunder of including the Atlantic editor). As previously mentioned, amongst other issues, this totally by-passess all the legislated (secure) storage requirements.
I think is was the newly appointed FBI director who has previously said words to the effect, any sharing / leaking of unauthorised information by whatever means = you’re fired.
Hegseth should have been toast after the first exposure.
Imagine the shock at the pre-flight briefing - hi guys, we are going to hit the enemy hard today - oh, Sec Def has shared the strike plan with lots of people - still wanna fly?
