Trump's Second Term Chat

Media reporting elons imminently stepping down. Wonder if the romance has fallen apart

Probably hopes to save his business

Hopefully. Clearly he’s seen everyone dislikes him and it’s killing his investments.

Currently waiting for Trump to unveil his latest tariffs.

I think I’m ready…

I do find it funny that they get idiots in the crowd wearing helmets, as if to show how the builders and such like support the administration. Certainly not something unique to Trump though!

Also, this is a ridiculously large event just for tariffs. I do wonder if there is more to this than meets the eye.

I’ve heard it’s actually just a large-scale dress rehearsal for the next Village People gig.

He’s moaning about no one buying American cars overseas. Blaming tariffs for that.

No sir, it’s because we don’t want cars the size of articulated trucks. Nor do we want cars that can only do 20MPG.

I’m loving the complaints about American cars not selling. It’s not the tarrifs causing this, it’s that American cars are poor quality.

Also, his whole this here is “They charge X% and these guys charge Y% and it’s just not fair, you shouldn’t charge friends anything. So instead, we’re going to charge you all loads as pay back!”

“Tariffs would have stopped the great depression”

Just wow…

Talking about 5m manufacturing jobs being lost since 1992. Like man, you seen what machines we using now?

Instead of 50 guys being paid crap, beating on metal to make a car, you’ve got maybe 5 guys running high-tech sophisticated machines that do it. Of course you’ve lost loads of manufacturing jobs. It’s a different world. Higher productivity per job, magnitudes higher.

It’s not that though, look at Tesla’s before the last year?

Quite right, people also don’t want to buy cars that will trap them inside when they catch fire too.

Hilariously, he started this speech with “This is simple from midnight reciprocal tariffs. We’ll charge you what you charge us. Not complicated, super simple”. Yet he’s now holding up a sign showing the tariffs and almost none of them match like he said :joy: They’re all just made up. I think the UK one matched maybe? 10%?

Ah sorry, that has changed again. “It’s not full reciprocal, it’s kind reciprocal”.

The Cybertruck is a bit of an aberration. But a range of reasonably sized cars that weren’t horrifically expensive to run were, until the politics of the owner became the focus, very popular around the world. It’s the quality of the majority of American cars that’s the issue.

To be fair, Tesla’s have always been known for dodgy quality. Loads of bad panel gaps and such. And silly designs where you end up getting stuck in the car or stuck out the car. Plus Elon’s complete avoidance of using LiDAR, as he thinks it’s not needed.

I’d rather have a BYD than a Tesla if I was buying new, even without the politics :man_shrugging: (Would obviously much rather a European car though…)

23 mins into a pre-written speech and things are already back tracking. This is hilarious.

It’s quite funny that he’s essentially arguing for free trade, whilst simultaneously arguing against free trade agreements…

10% for UK i was expecting worst

Exactly! Perfectly put!
