Trump's Second Term Chat

I tried to fully switch over to Signal a few years ago, but so many people are only on WhatsApp that I had to reinstall it.

And that’s exactly the issue I hit; but even Signal is American.

change American for Chinese and the statement is still true - and forms part of the USA’s paranoia about Chinese tech…

double standards?

Not really, it all informs the data sovereignty debates. My own personal effort has been in trying to Europeanise my data as much as is feasible, as the EU has some of the best consumer-orientated data protection laws going and is allied both in political terms but also in world-view.

I thought it was non-EU Switzerland that had the best privacy laws: hence Proton(mail) being based there?

The Orange Menace sent this to the Prime Minister of Norway overnight:

Dear Jonas: Considering your Country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize for having stopped 8 Wars PLUS, I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace, although it will always be predominant, but can now think about what is good and proper for the United States of America. Denmark cannot protect that land from Russia or China, and why do they have a “right of ownership” anyway? There are no written documents, it’s only that a boat landed there hundreds of years ago, but we had boats landing there, also. I have done more for NATO than any other person since its founding, and now, NATO should do something for the United States. The World is not secure unless we have Complete and Total Control of Greenland. Thank you! President DJT

There are literal written documents, this guy is certifiable and no-one seems to care.

he misses the point that the Nobel Peace Prize closing date is the end of January that year.
he was sworn into office on 20th Jan.

he had 11 days to influence “peace” and get an application in to be award in 2025

but why let due process get in the way of an opinion right?

Also missed the point that Norway don’t decide who gets it and who doesn’t. That’s an independent body that just happens to be based in Norway…

I’m almost going back to Trump being a literal Russia asset. Russia has compromat on him, and he’s acting in their best interests. I mean, he’s successfully tearing the west apart. Playing right into Putin’s game of taking the west without a single missile being fired.

Putin right now.

There’s definitely a threat of force in that response that cannot be ignored.

Sincerely hoping our security services are very busy right now.

i know nothing of USA politics or there system so excuse my ignorance…

…where are the Democrats in all of this?
as the “opposition party” don’t they get to hold the Republicans/DJT to account?

while they do not have a House of Commons to debate in, how does it work?
or is it so different that not such platform for Democrats exist? there seems to be little reaction/reporting of what others in USA politics are saying (unless my source of news outlet needs expanding?)

There’s 3 branches of government in the US, summed up best as the President, the Supreme Court and Congress (House of Representatives + The Senate).

Each one normally needs to work around the other 2, which is where the checks & balances comes into play. In normal times this works, even where one party has control of all 3.

This time Trump has control of all 3, having stacked the bench in the Supreme Court, won the presidency and popular vote, and having won the majority of both houses of Congress.

Simply put, the Democrats can talk a lot right now but have no real power to do anything about this situation or any other.

Well, they did wield real power when the Senate couldn’t pass the last funding bill.

And then they threw it away?
