Well…..
He’s a bit of a one trick pony, isn’t he?
“You do something I don’t like!? TARIFFS!!!”
Show a child a hammer and everything becomes a nail!
He’s knackered if SCOTUS removes the powers
So apparently the last person to be gifted the prize like this from an awardee was Joseph Goebbels. Y’know, the Nazi propaganda guy. That, well, speak volumes.
A man is known by the company he keeps.
Plot officially lost
I assume any deal we made with him to keep us tariff free will now be revoked?
Perhaps we’re at the point where we just need to begin economic decoupling from the US.
The actions of the current American administration are not those of a trustworthy ally.
I feel for who ever is going to have to fix the mess he’s making
You mean JD Vance when they fix the next election and have Baron Trump as VP?
I couldn’t care less - some bells can’t be unrung. There’s no ‘fixing this’, there’s simply adjusting to the new reality.
But that’s their problem, not ours - our problem is full economic, industrial and military de-coupling from this deranged, spiteful, toddler-on-crack country as quickly as possible.
No more F-35, replacement rocket for GMLRS, work out what to do with AH-64, work with France to keep the Trident missiles in service without US participation.
If anything, this whole episode of Deranged Orange TV should be pushing us into greater integration with European systems, particularly in the Defence sector.
I’m not sure the American bases in Europe should have a future either.
If the baffoon doesn’t prevent them from happening. I’m assuming the support might fall out from underneath him in the mid terms
They’re another year away yet, aren’t they?
Kind of cute to believe they’ll happen in any meaningful way…
Which reminds me - isn’t he due a state visit later in the year?
That should be the response to these Tarrifs.
I intuit there’s a bit of a game in the heads of European leaders right now.
There’s likely a sense of greater capacity and deterrent to Russia the more we can keep Trump in than out with regards to Europe and Ukraine (flip flops more than Boris Johnson’s fringe, but never enough to believably say never).
Remove the bases, remove any US incentive to care or be involved. No US = emboldened Putin.
Bottom line, the more we fall out, the bigger the smiles in the Kremlin.
Starting to feel like we’re more likely to see US bombs landing than Russian ones though… Or do we reach the point that the US has its own military coup should such orders be attempted?
I do agree that it’s an incredibly nuanced situation.
My concern is whether the US actually are a deterrent to Russia already. Many of their actions regarding Ukraine suggest they’d both carve up Europe in a deal for Ribbentrop 2.0
