Trump's Second Term Chat

Our sack has plenty in it.

Someone said higher up in this thread that America has made their decision, and we need to respect that. If that means that global relations with America start to crumble, so be it. So long as our relations with everyone else can stay strong or even get stronger.

If Americans get more and more isolated, then they may start realising that Trumps way of doing things is not the best way.

If it was only affecting them, I could. Unfortunately, he’s gone too far, and I will not respect anyone who voted for Trump. Ever.

Fortunately, X is getting louder with dissent, at least it seems like it from my point of view.

Ours as a nation or the personal sack of the people making the decisions?

Yeah, it’s too extreme.

I certainly consider my self left wing. But at least in the UK I can sit and have a conversation with those who voted Tory, or even Reform. I don’t agree with it overall, but we can talk and discuss issues and find some middle ground. And still be friends afterwards. I can understand their viewpoints and vice versa.

With Trump voters/MAGAts, I really can’t do the above. There’s possibly some logic in there, but it’s mostly just horribleness and/or complete misinformation and/or a complete misunderstanding of how things work.

I’m reminded of my earlier post on another thread…

This’ll be the find out stage of FAFO. “Yes we wanted cuts, just not cuts to us”.

To be fair, that’s been a lot of the narrative from the MAGA crowd. They don’t see a problem if it doesn’t affect them personally, and don’t look more than one step ahead. Then they try asking Trump for their job or funding back because Musk cut it.

I just can’t understand the mindset of a person who is happy to let innocent people die and argue about money, most of which has ended up paying American companies and American workers, especially since America is the only country to invoke NATO article 5. When compared to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, 9/11 is nothing.

I don’t actually find it funny as such. I think it’s more sad. So many Americans completely bamboozled into what is a giant grift to make the super wealthy more wealthy.

Absolutely no change from leading up to the election that resulted in his first term. We were on a cruise (set off from New York), so lots of ‘Merican pax. Many were like the Orange One. My views are correct / accurate / better than yours. Very scary. Had to back off on more than one occasion! :astonished:

The Guardian comparing Zelensky to the child who pointed out the Emperor is naked, by breaking the current cardinal rule of international relations: Tell the truth about Donald Trump.

Good reminder for those listening to Trumps comments about Zelensky being a dictator:

fixed it

That Right wing info bubble must be very incentivising

object permanence is usually developed before you can vote in elections

guess the water really is bad over there

The aforementioned article 5 resulted in a closer comparison to the invasion of Ukraine than 9/11

I often go out of my way to let my suggestions get sucked into right wing political stuff. Start interacting with the right posts and soon enough your whole Instagram feed is full of it. Makes for interesting viewing, seeing the posts that are being fed to MAGAts.

I quickly go back to interacting with cat videos, which make for nicer viewing.

I can’t do it. I’ve tried. And unless there’s a damn good reason not to, I’ve removed people from my friends lists and follows who incessantly post nonsense.

I don’t have the energy to engage, and even if I did I don’t think it would help.

I can only hope that, in the US, Trump fails so hard that the blind are healed (which might help sway some UK voters away from certain lines of thinking) and that, in the UK, the current government proves successful enough to turn enough people’s opinions.

There are relative moderates both Republican and Reform fans, who saw/see those parties representing what they see as priorities without buying or wanting the more extreme or potentially hidden policies.

The US is now in a position where they have to learn the hard way, we still have hope that people can be shown a better way, even if it’s not perfect.

This is completely understandable, despite accusations that it leads to a so-called echo chamber. Trying to ignore the disinformation is hard.

I’ve also had to get rid of some American Democrats from my feeds too though. As much as I agree with a lot of what they’re saying, I go on social media to escape from reality, not be confronted by it.

“You should have never started it. You could have made a deal,” he later added.

“I could have made a deal for Ukraine,” he said. “That would have given them almost all of the land, everything, almost all of the land - and no people would have been killed, and no city would have been demolished.”

It’s extremely concerning that quotes from the president of the USA sound like the incoherent ramblings of a KS1 student

I deleted Twitter for this very reason, I consider myself a card carrying Thatcherite and I consider MAGA and Reform to be loonies on their best day.
