I know Jarrod and I know that’s not him in that account. The real one will be along to chat in a bit.
Thanks.
It’s also worth saying I don’t think any of us actually have an issue with actual Jarrod! Just the person pretending
I’m all for having CFAVs on the media team personally. He just seems to have got some stick from the back end of the Muster.
Evening all.
I am here, and a bit irritated as you’d guess, as now I’m putting a name to my account.
Apologies for the issue on this thread which seems to be someone close to home having a bit of ‘fun’.
Just for some background, I’m a CFAV and have recently taken on ‘digital 1’ - a new role to handle the social media and digital content for the Corps.
I’m not involved in the muster organisation, but am helping to some of the social media and comms work for the event, so happy to answer questions based on that.
The last RHQ / HQAC staff who exposed them self here, ended up being shot at dawn by the hierarchy… protect yourself.
But if you can answer questions… see all chat above and please tell us why it’s such a cluster.
We as volunteers wouldnt get away with such poor admin or planning. Why is it that WHQs, RHQs and HQAC can?
Thanks.
I hope you don’t get slack for other people’s failings. The one question I would have if I was being cheeky though is did you have reassurance from the event organisers that when posting on Facebook, the information had actually been shared internally first? Certainly for me, and many others (seemingly mostly L&SER) the first we saw about the event was when it was advertised on Facebook. An SMS application didn’t appear for another day, and an email with actual information took another day after that! (all within 7 days of the activity AFAIK)
I’m pretty sure my question isn’t really your problem, but thought I’d say it anyway. One of the most frustrating things I see regularly is having something posted on central SM saying ‘speak to your staff for details’ when as staff we have no information at all!
Happy to see another HQAC bod on here though. Maybe best to just go quiet again though Thanks for coming on at least. And as I said above, I hope you don’t get too much stick for other people’s mistakes…
Probably because of how much they embarrassed themselves.
I did. There was the understanding that this has been communicated out (our Wing had seen it before the post) but that by using the social media channels we could ensure any gaps were covered.
I purposely left it an extra week after that to ensure the normal filtering of emails could take place, and all the messages and wording was agreed above to ensure it was accurate (to my knowledge).
As can be seen by the frustration here, that obviously didn’t happen and somewhere something hasn’t gone to plan.
Side note, I have always advocated that while ACC might seem like something to be wary of, with a pinch of salt at times, it’s the best place for a temperature check of how we feel on the coalface. I always look to see how announcements have gone down, so I can pick up learnings. The COVID Facebook one some here will know I raised issue with, and so had lengthy discussions with those involved around the background.
Really appreciate your transparency given how sensitive this subject is. Hopefully you are in a place to feedback to the decision makers.
Why do we use facebook and social media before events… surely a safer way would be post event marketing.
We dont need social media to push events. We have cadet portal.
Use it.
This is aimed at all the people in the CoC, who feel they dont need to or that its beneath them, or are just dinosaurs.
Thanks for the response.
From your reply it sounds like HQAC have picked a good person for the job! Hopefully you’re now in a position to feed back more of what is going on at the ‘coal face’ to those that aren’t.
As I mentioned previously in this thread, I personally believe there’s always going to be a broken link in the CoC; it would happen with solely paid staff never mind when volunteers are involved.
When there’s a broken link, there’s always going to be someone who misses out or hears through word of mouth. Even when a link isn’t broken, one will take longer than another to forward an email on. Ultimately, whoever advertises an event (or anything else) on SM is bound to get people moaning about it through no fault of their own.
We need to change our internal comms processes.
Ding Ding Ding, winner winner.
One day this might happen.
With personal emails and VP, announcements should be the norm, not trickle down comms. Especially for a ‘national’ event like this.
Fair enough, do trickle down comms a week before so that the SMEs can know before us, but we need to know before the cadets.
I should add I do however still support a good SM push too, so long as those on the inside know first.
We need the ability to send direct to Cadet Portal with Squadrons having 24 hours to Opt out rather than waiting for them to sort their lives out.
This x infinity
I disagree.
Forcing the details to CP only works of your unit has actually been invited to it in the first place - clearly, some were not.
OCs not pushing this out to CP was not the big problem here, so removing the ability to veto an event is not the solution.
I think you’re both right. In this situation it wouldn’t have helped, as you say, some weren’t even invited.
But in general, the ability to push directly, with a veto option, could be a good way forward for other events.
Ability to annotate why they haven’t shared either for SME review
I’m not a massive fan, but I could get on board with this if it was more like the 6 weeks I have to give RHQ for a fieldcraft event rather than 24 hours.
If I have to plan 8 weeks in advance, perhaps everyone above could lead by example?
I’m exaggerating a bit, but giving squadrons two weeks to opt out could possibly be a compromise?
I have been watching this thread with a lot of interest - The muster really should not of been this hard to sort. I was one of the leads for the 1st ever muster back in 2014 at RAF Odiham, that was for Hants & IOW so that was pretty easy, after that we had various wings from the South West and some CCF schools - all very well organised - Topcliff also had one… maybe those above should have reached out to those that have done before and very successfully at that… just saying
I went to a muster at Odiham a few years ago (maybe about the time you said) and it was awesome. Great day out.
That’s why I’m most annoyed cadets will miss out, as I know how good it can be!
