The Cluster at the Muster

I guess they do care then!

Just seen a parent mention on Facebook that there was a birdstrike and that’s why her son couldn’t fly, but they had an amazing day anyway.

I really do hope that for a majority of cadets that attended, they did enjoy it too.

Oh and my staff member who accompanied the cadets (a Police officer who is on duty now, who got up at the crack of dawn), got gripped on the way out, for leaving before final parade, in order to get to work, told he’d be reported.

Would the CCF cadets have signed up via SMS or would they sign up via Westminster?

Having organised a few activities with the CCF recently, they have put their own activity/approval through Westminster.

Possibly a fair comment on a point I’d overlooked and likely cause of the disparity.

But if it’s 1200 cadets, that would be 1/3 CCF. If it’s 1000, about 1/5.

Of course they could be inflating with staff numbers, so somewhere between 850 and 1050 cadets total, with 100-300 CCF, so still a potential of 30% CCF which I can’t help but feel would be high (as a proportion of units in the regions), but being there were getting time off school and transport issues that CCF could be more flexible with…

Social media and some comments painting a less negative picture - cadets flying, big smiles…

Looks like you either had a great time, or a less great time…

As I said above, I’m really hoping for most cadets it was positive, and I imagine it was. But it is pretty bad to hear what @Threaders is saying.

Also on that post, I think the video they’ve put together is pretty good! Also well done given the event only just finished too.

Almost certainly will… the headmaster says go - boom 30 cadets can go. For me that would be several headteachers needing to be contacted/agree… and schools with ccf are supportive of them. Normal schools with community atc… less so.

My cadet flew in a Chinook and had a pretty good time which seems to be the case for our Wing who are still on the coach home so some had a good experience

OK, yes, many and probably most cadets had a great time and were given a fantastic opportunity to have an experience that will last their lives.

Which is great and admirable, and I do respect there having been the appetite to get this event off the ground for their benefit.

SM is, of course, going to focus on the success.

That shouldn’t distract from the admin and comms debacle. It was still a horrible mess. Without this being called out, it will be ignored.

You couldn’t even go for a walk on a tarmac public path if you left your risk assessment until Thursday night and didn’t get your app approved.

I’ve just thought of a new sweepstake idea:

Date the SMS Event will be completed.

Big bid for a bold bet, could be worth me taking that one!

Wait, before I lose money, can it be completed without being approved first? Cos’ I’m saying it’ll never be approved

No it can’t

In which case I’m with @Victor_Zulu. It’ll just disappear at some point in 6 months time…

Comment from the Facebook post:

Looks like a great event , however I’m sick to death of the rafac making the rules up as they go along with regards to covid safety. Seeing and hearing of sqns getting into trouble for sharing photos of activities which have been deemed breaching the dated covid rules rafac are currently enforcing to then see videos of cadets indoors ( enjoying the experience as they should) close together no masks as per your regs is upsetting to say the least please please either stand by your own rules or update them so everyone can behave in the same manner so cadets can be treated consistently the same and enjoy the cadet experience as they should

Absolutely spot on that man! Stick to the rules you’ve set, or change them so they make sense for everyone.
